Anomen Bugs (spoiler)

Post by Kaetania »

Hi everyone,
I hate for this to be my first thread, seeing as most of you seem to dislike Anomen immensely, and are probably sick of talking about him, but I'm terribly annnoyed with the Anomen subquest/romance, and I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have helped Anomen through the crisis with his sister, and he has been knighted, but the end of his quest will not happen. He has said the line 'Hark one I recognize approaches" (or whatever it is ) that is supposed to trigger the event, but it was in spellhold, and I reloaded because I got killed and it didn't happen the second time. Then, I was in the temple of Waukeen in the Gov't district and he said it, but no one approached us, so I reloaded, and he hasn't said anything since. I have installed Shadowkeeper in an attempt to solve the problem myself, but I am scared to do anything, because I don't really understand all of the numbers. It says that Anomen is on "lovetalk" 37, but I'm not sure if that is the last one, or if this is even the variable I should be changing. If anyone knows a way to fix this problem, please help! I can tell you other variables if you need me to, just post what you need to know, and I will submit it. I am in chapter 6, so this is my last chance to finish this quest. :( Thank-you for taking the time to help.

That's happened to me, and I had trouble finishing his romance the first time through.

Let's see if DragonWench or Yshania can stop by, they know more than I about the particulars. There's also the 'Anomen' thread which should help :)

*goes in search*

And, no, we don't all hate Anomen :)

Unfortunately (I think! :D ) I am unfamiliar with the Anomen romance. If you are talking variables, Sabre or Sojourner are your best bet! :)

My brain is rather foggy at the moment....but I think that the romance (at least the messenger part of it) needs to be concluded prior to venturing to Spellhold.....

If you have an earlier game that dates to before Spellhold, you may want to go back to it and use the CLUA console to get around the bugs......the details on how to do this should be located on page three of the thread that Viv posted..... along with much talk of whipping cream and shaving...... :D

As you will discover by reading through the thread....the Anomen romance is at least as buggy as the Jaheira one

btw, welcome to Game Banshee, and you are from Vancouver as well ! lol ! :D

Thank-you and Update

Hi again everyone,
Thank-you very much for all of your help, and for making me feel so welcome :) Nice to know there is a fellow Vancouverite around DragonWench! I checked out the Anomen thread, and it was very informative (and amusing). It has gone part way toward solving my problem, but I'm not quite there yet. I went to the MudMaster Shadowkeeper FAQ on BG2 romances, and found some important information, which I will post here in case others have similar difficulties to my own.

1) Lovetalk is a local variable tied to the NPC who you are having a romance with. It is basically a counter of which dialogs/events have already occured and which are still due to occur. As it is a local variable, in order to set it by CLUAConsole commands you need to have your mouse over the NPC's portrait and have just it selected and do CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("Lovetalk","LOCALS",#). That said, it's just much easier to add the local variable with Shadowkeeper. Change the Lovetalk variable that is listed under the Affects tab for that NPC to the appropiate #.

2) Anomen's Romance ends at LoveTalk 36 when he basically wants to get married (or never part). The final part of this is actually when he tries to kill Saerk or his Father.

3)There is another related quest variable for Anomen's romance, although it is only for the final lines of Anomen's romance. SpawnTerl is a Global Variable (Timer) that triggers the text regardless of him being a Knight or not.

So, having found out all of this new info., I now have 2 new questions.

1)Beside my Anomen lovetalk it says 37. Does this mean that I should have completed the quest with Anomen's father? If I set this variable to 36, will it go back to after we decided to stay together forever, but before the Father part (which didn't happen in my game, but should have)?

2)How does the countdown beside SpawnTerl work? The global variable timer beside my SpawnTerl variable in Shadowkeeper says 6748071. What does this number mean, and how do I find out if that time (day/ hour) has passed in my game? I am on day 89, hour 0, outside of the Five Flagons Inn in the Bridge District. If it has passed, what do I need to change with the countdown timer to in order to ensure that the encounter occurs in my game (preferably ASAP)?

Alright, that was a lot more than 2 questions, but at least it is only 2 issues. Thanks again to everyone who is taking the time to read my long posts, and help out.

-Cheers

You should avoid changing the LOVETALK variable itself - it can cause more problems. In general, for any of the romances, when LOVETALK is incremented to an even number, the next dialog is triggered, providing certain conditions are met.

It sounds like the game timer for Terl's appearance expired while you were in the wrong chapter (the first time). Other than some wierdness with Anomen's dialog, you should have been able to continue with his romance in chapter 6.

The number you see for SpawnTerl is the value it was initially set to - 3 game days' time. You can force it to immediately expire by entering the following at the console:

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("SpawnTerl","global",1)

If this doesn't cause an immediate appearance, try spawning him in:

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("Terl")

Make sure you do this outside - Anomen should automatically initiate dialog. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips Sojourner,
I tried both, but sadly, to no avail. The first one didn't spawn Terl (although tell me if I have to wait 3 days for this to work). The second one spawned Terl, but Terl "has nothing to say to you"... Should I set the lovetalk to 36 in order to prompt the final dialogue, and then create Terl?

First, make sure your romance with Anomen is still active:

CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("AnomenRomanceActive","global")

It should be 2 at this point.

Next, check the chapter (in your journal). It should not be 4, 5, or 7.

Hi again,
Thanks for walking me through this Sojourner.
I have checked, and yes, it is set to 2, and I am in Chapter 6. So, I tried setting the "Lovetalk" to 36, and doing CreateCreature("Terl"), but sadly, he still had nothing to say to me. I tried spawning Terl, and then sleeping for a couple of days in game, but that didn't help either. Most recently, I tried setting the lovetalk to 36 in Shadow Keeper, and then going into the game and using CTRL+I with Anomen on my main Character. This made him say "Wait, someone I know approaches" (or whatever the line is) which is what he is supposed to say when Terl approaches. Sadly, Terl did not show up =( . When I tried to spawn him, nothing happened. When I tried to create him, he showed up, and he was dressed differently, but he still had nothing to say to me. This is really frustrating, and I'm beginning to think that it is beyond hope.

Check a few more globals:

CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("AnomenSaerk","GLOBAL")

CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("RomancePartFour","GLOBAL")

Both should not exist.

I DID IT!!!!!

Thank-you eveyone for your support. Here's what needs to be done to get the end of the Anomen Romance to work (if you have the bug that stops it from working present in your game) for anyone who wants to know:

1)Check to make sure that the romance still exists by checking AnomenRomanceActive in the ShadowKeeper Global variables tab. It should be set at 2. Or, use CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("AnomenRomanceActive","global") and check that it is set at 2.

2)Make sure that you are NOT in chapters 4,5, or 7, because it can't happen there.

3)Look at Anomen's Affects tab item "lovetalk" in ShadowKeeper. If the event was missed somehow it will be at 37, if it is still to come, it will be at 35 or below, and you should be patient, or try suggestions elsewhere on this forum to speed up romances). In ShadowKeeper: set Anomen's Affects tab item "lovetalk" to 36. Or you can use CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("Lovetalk","Local",36). This should work, although I used the ShadowKeeper way, so I can't guarantee it. This will ensure that you are at the right stage in the Anomen romance for the event/encounter to occur. People have warned me that messing with lovetalk variables can mess up your game, so be careful, make back up copies, and continue at your own risk.

4)Now, go to the Global Variables tab in shadowkeeper, and scroll down until you find the item SpawnTerl (Terl is the messenger who tells you about Anomen's father's death). It may have a big huge number beside it (seven digits). Set this number to 1. Or use CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("SpawnTerl","global",1) to achieve the same effect. Once again, I used the Shadowkeeper method, so it's the only one that I am sure will work, but the CLUAConsole should do the same thing.

5)Next, load your newly edited game if you have been using Shadowkeeper thus far, or just continue along in the same game if you are using CLUAConsole. *Make sure that you are outside, and in Athkatla.* Use CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("Terl"), and Terl should appear.

6)Finally, highlight only the character Anomen. Now press CTRL+I (you may have to press these keys similtaneously several times, or hold them down for a minute) while holding the cursor over the image of Terl, and VOILA, you have dialogue.

I just read over my message and realized that someone reading this may have no idea what CLUAConsole is, and to tell you the truth, neither do I, but here's how to access it:
To quote Exalted Member Georgi on page 6 of the anomen thread:
"In your BG2 folder, open the file baldur.ini with a text editor (probably good idea to make a backup first), and under the Program Options header, type the following: Debug Mode=1 and save the file. This will enable the CLUA console. Once in the game, press ctrl-space to access the console. You can, if you know the codes, use it for all kinds of cheating... but with the romances, these are the most useful codes, type them exactly as written, it is case-sensitive..."

So there it is, a magical way to override the bug that keeps you from finishing the Anomen Romance. If anyone has problems with this, or if I miswrote something, please let me know. Thank-you so much to eveyone who helped me figure this out (see above thread, and the anomen thread at
http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/s...ighlight=Anomen). The Anomen thread is actually a really fun read for anyone who doesn't dislike Anomen, so, if you're in that category, like I am, have a look :)
