Classes able to go through the game solo ?

Post by Laenor »

I've been wondering how many classes would be able to go through SoA and ToB.
W/o cheating (of course), i only Know Magicians (Sorcerer, Multi, Duals) that would be able to do it.
I played a Wild Mage through SoA/ToB, and managed to kill the boss.
I don't see a melee / thief / Healer doing it.
Atm i'm soloing a Monk, and GOD, it's much harder than with a Wild mage.

I think you can solo with an Undead Hunter, i've tried it but then i bought ToB and left in unfinished. But it is possible.

How would a Solo Undead Hunter Kill Melissan ?
Going through SoA is quite easy, but ToB ain't *cheesy*, especially for Character without the powerfull tools of a mage.

im soloing now with a halfelf fighter/mage/thief and it works great so far... though im just in chapter2 but actually most fights that were though when i used a 6char-party are now much easier. at least for me.
example fighting parties, just backstab, cast invisible spell, wait 6 seconds, backstab and so on until you've reduced them to a more fitting number. they usually wont even be able to touch you.

i can hear you

I think any Multi/Dual that has access to Mage abilities can do it.
My question was:
Would a soloing character without Mage Spells be able to go through the game, and if yes what class would be needed ? :D

Since demons see through Invisibility, (at least in my Version of the game - French with last international patch - ) a Thief would die in a Heartbeat against Melissan.

I finished off mellisan with a f/m/t, but without spells (just to give it a trie)

It's a mirracle what greater wirlwind can do.
Anf for a thief class, if you are a f/t you can place traps that makes some fight a lot easyer!!!!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Monks can

I'm soloing with a monk right now. I'm only in the Asylum so I'm not sure if he can make it to ToB. Right now there has been no enemy he can't kill. He's taken down Adamantite Golems, Dragons (Shade and Red), bosses, etc. He's pretty good with an armor class of -10, -12 with a certain sword (doth'zerkon blade or something), and quivering palm is awsome. Mages can't hurt him with a magic resistence of 88%. He can kill fighters because his fists are awsome, dealing out usually 20-30 damage. You should try it.

I completed all of SoA and ToB with a ranger/cleric dualclass (dueled at 8). Melissan took about 30 tries, but that was by far the toughest battle.

Leeman s i'm soloing a Monk atm, he's level 26 and has -11 Ac, -7 thaco, 93%resists,hits for 10-30dmg and is still dieing a lot more than my wild mage did, due to too low Hps.
Gotta admit that getting High Level Abilities is helping.

Laenor: its remarkable what a single round of assassinate can do. I have taken down dragons to half their health with a single round of assassinate and melissan tasted a combo of assassination and traps. You assassinate her in the first battle. Lay out enough traps to take out her the seconds time...and a third time...and the fourth time as well. I think it was some 5 traps the first time, 6 or 7 the seconds and a final 9 traps the last time.

The best though is a Dual classed Berserker/Thief in my mind.
Some say Wizardslayer/thief but I say berserker/thief since the berserker rage will give you alot of important immunities as well as the berserkers quite respectable healthpoints.

yes

monks get VERY powerful in higher levels, im at level 21. I reached level 21 in chapter 2 lol. Without cheating. I also had 130,000 gold left to use before sailing away. It's amazing how different it is when you solo. But it is pretty fun imo.

Laenor: Dual wielded katanas isn't bad either. Celelstial Fury and Hindo's Doom+4 give you a pretty neat combination.

Immunity towards death magic, 10% magical resistance as well as two VERY lethal weapons. Especially since the 12 extra damage isn't multiplied by backstabs.

I was soloing SoA by the time i got ToB, when i got it i restored my original saves and continued with my full party.

Anyway i might give it try in ToB and see if i can pull it through with an Undead Hunter. :D

Good luck, there are a few Fights where i'm wondering how a Fighter can kill things alone (Sendai, 5th test in hell, Abazigal, Melissan)

Fighters can summon stuff as well, many good summoning-items usable by all classes, like "Staff of Fire +2", with that staff the 5th test in hell is a pushover (The fire elemental is immune to sarevoks attacks). And if you have the bonus merchants and feel like cheese you can always use Vhailor's Helm and create a small army of elementals to fight at your side. :)
