Free or not?

Post by Xyx »

GB: Is there any new information on how the Official Vault will be maintained? With your recent publisher changes, do you still intend to make the official servers free of charge?
Greg: We’ve been spending a significant amount of time in the last few weeks planning out how our community site is going to work. In short, it’s going to be very impressive. We are creating a location that all players of Neverwinter Nights will gather and exchange information. We’ll have more information on this as it develops.
Is that a "yes" or a "no"!?

First of all, whats the purpose of the Free Vault, considering that Bioware are not supporting an actual on-line world.

And secondly the fact that we may have to pay for something will greatly impact on whether I get the game or not.

If I do have to pay on a monthly basis for it, I will flat out not buy it.
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

I hope (think) what they are talking about is not a possible play-2-play community - but rather the official vault-community.
But even if that went "to pay" for - it would still be a big set back for NwN and it would find it harder to compete with DAoC and the "free games".

This is once again the patented: We'll have to wait and see - answer (hmm - getting tired of that one :D )

We're past "tired" of that one..., but it's sooooo useful these days!

I would be very shocked if they made such a drastic change to their marketing plans at this point. It has always been free to play NWN and that was one of their big selling points. I doubt they'll change that at all. They're as likely to make it with the infininty engine as they are to switch it to pay-to-play, IMO.

Well I think Blizzard proved that a company doesn't need to leech money off us per month, look at Battlenet, it's huge, must require ****loads of Space and its absolutly free!

If NwN turns Pay per month I'd say they'd lose out on at LEAST 60% of the people who were planning on getting the game

I seem to not be getting something :o :o . NWN is not out yet right? If that's right, what do you mean by "always been free to play NWN"? :o
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

That it has always been the design brief to be free... :) :)
