BG2 limits bards to level 6 spells and below.

Well, blades can be a very strong character. Consider Skull Trap. It's basically a Delayed-Blast Fireball which can reach 40d6 damage. That's 120 points even if they make a save. :)

Consider the possibility of Stoneskin, Tenser's Trans, and Offensive Spin. You get the THAC0 of a equal-lvl fighter, no damage for several rounds, and do max damage with each hit. Dual wielding just sweetens the deal. ;)

If you want a f/m, think of what your party is. Low number of people, do multi f/m. With a big party, try Swashbuckler or Kensai dualed to mage between 9 and 12. For Swash/Mage, I'd suggest Spec in Katana and max out Two Weapon (Fury and Dak'kon's). Kensai/mage can do the same, or go with GM in Staff, max Two Handed (Staff of Magi).

Bards may not be able to learn the level 7-9 spells, but that doesn't mean they can't be strong characters! Check out two's immortal thread: No deaths, no reloads.

You gotta be kidding! The Blade is awesome on higher levels. Just keep playing and you'll see for yourself. Of course no Bard can compete with a Mage when it comes to number or selection of spells. This doesn't make them weak.

No deaths, no reloads, NO PAUSE!!!! Ahahha Samcu, you're welcome!
:D :D :D

Some notes.
Skull Trap, like all spells, is capped at the power of level 20.
So the maximum is 20d6.
If you cast a spell that lasts 1 round/level, it will last NO MORE
than 20 rounds.

Arcane, you can get Vhailor's Helm to cast Simulacrum.
And with Simulacrum you can use a cheesy tactic to cast all
the spells you want (but this is VERY cheesy!).
:D
Or you can just play the blade "normally", I think it's fun indeed.

Heh, and I thought only duration of spells caps at lvl 20. OH well. That's still up to 60 dam if someone saves, 120 if they don't. And DFB is a permanent 14d6. Skull Trap any day. :)

I am but a simple commoner but i post my opinion :D

although i tried a spear blade once, he rocked with impaler but was killed so easily without defensive spin...

anyhow, im thinking, what fun is a game without any challenges? i for one, favor baldur's gate over diablo because its no fun slaughtering monsters not having same stats or same equipments. in bg2, all this is different.

consider koshi; he is a kensai with every disadvantages and advantages of its class. he has the same abilities (except for bhaal abilities) and weapons (although his might be far better) and he is in a group. enemy mages use same magic and same skills and so it is challenging.

i dont have anything against soloing either. its sometimes more fun and challenging if youre traveling alone and bg2 doesnt have much NPC interactions. also i admit soloing is very interesting indeed (without stress...)

i dont mind pausing all the time and loading all the time (while i do wish it was faster) and have fun. if enemy is too weak, youve spoiled the game, thats my opinion... kinda strayed off the main subject here but anyway...yeah
BAH. I wish you all well on this relatively good day.

Then I wonder how you equipped him and what protective spells you used? What was his Dex and Con?
