Really Stupid Newb Question..
Okay... I just want to see if I understand the whole " Solo " thing correctly ....
The reason you would want to Solo with JUST your main character all the way through would be that all of the experience for whatever quest would go SOLEY to your character instead of being split between all 6 ???? And then from there just have the assorted NPC's join your party just long enough to get their specific quests ???
Also.... ASIDE from using a trainer , is there any way to remove the experience cap ?? I know that there ARE ways out there, but I am by no means interested in using any kind of trainer...
Thanks for the time to answer a silly question !!!

I've never soloed and never will (far to fond ofthe NPCs). However, I believe one of the main reasons for soloing is the challenge.
There are patches that remove the cap.

When soloing you level up incredibly fast. When I did my sorc, I had a few summons to help out.
Soloing forces you to drastically change your tactics. And I don't take NPC's when I solo. Plus you get to actually appreciate the usefulness of potions.
As Astafas said, its really the challenge that makes me want to solo. Briefly taking my kensai through SoA and I'm enjoying it.

***Minor Spoilers***
I've played thru the game solo without any thief characteristics. It's not really that hard, just a little bit of a pain. Traps can be detected many ways, the monk is able to spy them out (but cannot disarm), there's a familiar (rabbit I think) that can find traps, and there's also spells that can be used to find them. I've played thru the game so many times that I pretty much know where every trap is and where to walk to aviod them.
Locks are not that difficult either, there's plenty of equipment and potions that put up your strenght so you can bash the locks open. Every lock that you need to get open to continue the game can be bashed open. (eg the door in the mind flayer area in the underdark, escaping from the fighting ring)
Obviously these things are not as effective as a thief, but there is definately ways around it all.
Going solo is a nice change and can add a bit more of a challenge to the game. Some ppl say "I take the NPC's for the interaction", which is fine, however I just find myself hitting the Enter key as quickly as possible because I've already read all the dialogue NPC's have to offer.

This is my third time playing SOA/TOB, but have yet to play solo. It is something I will definitely do when I finish my current game and after I have my exam in june. It is definitely very challenging and prolong the game replayabliity.
However, I also suggest you to play a multi-player game so you can get a feel of what all the other classes can do. Try a monk, archer, priest of talos, f/m/t, bounty hunter, blade, stalker, undead hunter, swashbuckler, cavalier, kensai, wizard slayer, avenger, assassin, sorcerer, shapeshifter, kensai/mage, wizard slayer/thief, cleric/ranger, fighter/cleric, cleric/mage..... There are just too many games to play if you play on single player.

Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.
I use a multiplayer game consisting of a blade, archer, totemic druid and assassin in conjunction with CLUA Console. I find a nice cleared area, such as where the dragons preside. And just summon in a variety of monsters.Originally posted by samcu

I don't think people solo the game for the challenge, just a change of pace. Often you get to such a high level so quickly the game is often made alot easier than if you had a full or partial party(except for beastmasters, its possible but they blow... hard). Often only chapters 2 and 3 are challenging, but after that you're at such a high level you can go through the rest at a run. This is especially true if you play a power type chars like the uber kensai/mage or berserker/mage. Also you'll find that having only char you don't need to spread out your good equipment, which makes you even harder to kill.
As for traps when you have no thief skills, thats pretty easy. Most of the damage traps won't kill you outright so you can just eat the dmg and heal with potions or regen items. The really hard hitting ones are often on chests rather than doors and are just spells, and you can use the staff of magi's spell trap to be immune to all of those. Other than that, the cloak of mirroring and shield of harmony makes you pretty immune to everything short of those maze/imprisonment traps (which are pretty rare). Pure fighters tend to have it tough against those types of traps cause they'll have to make do with just berserker rage for immunities, and most don't even have that so just avoid em by trial and error or luck.
