Critter effect, Splatting or whatever you call it

Post by Bordin_Steelaxe »

Hullo!

I just installed BG I again (a dvd-version) and it is as if it is a censored version :( The problem is that when I do an overkill (when you do some more dmg than the mob's current hp) it doesn't show the critter effect (the blood, the flying bones, the exploding corpse, call it whatya want :) ), actually there's a big *nothing*. The corpse just disappears. It's like having a censored version of the game, I could fix this myself by installing from the 5 cd-version that I have, but the problem is that I can't find the frikkin' cd's! #¤%#¤% And it really makes me go crazy! :P

Anyway, if someone knows how to fix this "bug" or whatever it is I would appreciate it a lot. Personally I think it can be fixed with a simple file that is "missing", but I dunno, maybe someone has an answer to this thingy, coz I haven't :/

Thx in advance

You probably have already tried the Options>Gameplay>Gore -setting?

One question about your settings: Is Options/Game Play/Gore activated?

Edit: Moleman was faster. ;)

Eh... don't have that option :/ (But I gotta check again :) )

Checked it, and I don't have it, here's what I got:

Tool Tip Delay
Mouse Scroll Speed
Keyboard Scroll Speed
Difficulty

Dither Always

Group Infravision
Weather

There aren't any more options, and i checked them all :(

Yep, been there done that... No answers :/ But as I said, it's the version. With the 5 cd-version (It was 5 cd's, right? ;) ) I didn't have the problem, only with the dvd-version. I'm quite sure that it isn't just an option.

The last time I just installed from the 5 cd's and played with the dvd and that did solve the problem.

YARGH... if only I could find those cd's... stupid moving mess

I have the DVD version too. Just that problem would have been just fine by me. ;)
IIRC I didn't have a gore setting neither, but it's been a looooooong time so I don't know for sure.

Pffff! That thing is a very important part to the gameplay imho!

There's not much that is more satisfactory than to really SPLAT a kobold!! muahahahah ;) ... sorry, got caught away in the moment there...

No really, if I have to play without it it would be as if something was missing, I just can't do that, it's a vital part of the game :/

Oh well, I'll write an email to bioware and check back later, I've been online for 2 hours now to find a solutions, but no one knows *sneef*

Thx for the tips tho

I guess they had to remove Gore when Bush was elected :P

Seriously, have you checked the readme-file?

Try this:

Enable blood and gore (German and other international versions):
Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "Baldur.ini" file in the game directory. Add the line "Memory Access=100".

Try reinstalling the whole game just to get into the next area. I could go on and on. Strange thing is, I got the game for free with my comp. I'd expect it to work. :D

Important thing is, I love BG so it was all worth it :)

I'm glad moleman was able to help you! :)
