Oh, well I don't have a title yet, but something to do with women's role in magic in antiquity - lots of texts accuse all women of being witches, but most magicians seem to have been men... Yep, 10,000 words...
Sounds like an interesting topic - what are your conclusions so far?

My problems are exactly the opposite - trying to cram in some 2 years of research work into 1500 words *sigh*

Umm, mostly that I should do some reading :D Well, really most of what I know so far is what I've noticed in the sources throughout the course. But "magician" was usually a term used to refer to one's enemies, or people on the fringes of society, so that could be an angle to look at. If I do it for my dissertation, I could also include the implications of the abundance of female demons in the sources. :)

Rather than killing him, how about getting him to buy you a new one? ;)

So, what are the differences between being a "magician" and being a "witch"? And why the lack of female demons? What could it implicate do you think?

That must be a struggle! How is it going?
I'm developing migraine  No, it's actually is going quite well, but it's frustrating because you never get any flow in your writing, it's a weeks work behind every sentence

Don't ask  It's just about impossible to have a solid definition of anything to do with magic, since usually people only used it to refer to what other people did (rather than, say, their own counter-curses, or whatever). Abundance of female demons, not lack of them... I'm not sure about that part yet, I need to do more research :)

Yo, SS, I saw in some thread that you've been away with your parents to Disneyland? How was it?

@Dottie: Great :D Let's hope we can continue to lighten up your life :D ;)

Sorry, I thought abundance meant "lack of". So what does it mean?

Well, sounds like a good topic anyway, and you have plenty of time to do research now :)

read: plenty of time to be anxious over the fact that you should read but don't read, then the last two days when you actually read :D

That must be annoying. With my essays, I usually struggle to find enough to say to meet the word limit... ;)
I did too, at uni. I don't know what lenght would be suitable for me - not writing at all perhaps  My brother in law is a chemist, at his lab they have a really strange system. The PhD:s do the experiments, then their prof writes all the articles, they just leave the results to him

It was wonderful, but exhausting. My dad has a bad back, which means he can only do so much walking at a time, so we rented a wheelchair for him and I was the one lucky enough to get to push him around in it. I also found that my shoes are not the best for walking around that much, even though I have no problem walking all over the mall in them. By the last day, yesterday, my feet and legs were hurting so badly that I spent more time in the wheelchair than my dad did. :( The rides were fun, though the only rollercoaster I went on was the Matterhorn. I thought about going on the California Screamin' at California Adventure, but it looked too scary, though the part where you go from 0-55mph in less than 5 seconds didn't sound at all scary, since I do that in my car at least twice on the way to and from school. ;) Several rides we wanted go on, such as Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Carribean were closed. I also found that sometimes wearing a miniskirt is not the best idea, though I'm sure any guys around thought it was a great idea. ;) :o

Is there a phobia word for the fear that what you're standing/sitting on is going to break/collapse or something like that?

Sounds like you had a great time :) I visited Disneyland in Florida when my husband lived there, and wise from previous experience of entertainment parks and such, I wore Nike's :D

I suppose the mini-skirt was maintenace to the entertainment :D

I don't know of any specific word for fear that things you sit or stand on are going to collapse, but I know it's a very common fear. My very first therapy patient actually had that kind of phobia, he was afraid that buildings he was in would suddenly collapse, especially high buildings like bridges or houses with many floors.

That's strange Although I'm no expert on how PhDs work
1. Thanks, it's really horrible to think of how many English sentences I must have misunderstood since I thought it meant "lack of" :rolleyes"
2. You know others by knowing yourself :D ;)
3. Well, you are supposed to learn how to write articles, since this is your major means of communication, especially in the experimental sciences, like chemistry  Well, he is happy since writing good articles in generally considered the most difficult part of research, and he gets published without having to write.

Does it really count as being "published" if you don't write it yourself? That sounds weird to me...
