Why is this happening?

I just started to play as a mage. I cant figure out why im not getting a good familiar. Please help me out

Familiars are dictated by your alignment.
Law-Good--Pseudo dragon
Neut Good--Pseudo dragon
Chao Good--Fairy Dragon
Law Neut--Ferret
Neut--Rabbit
Chao Neut--Cat
Law Evil--Imp
Neut Evil--Dust Mephit
Chao Evil--Quasit

Without cheats I am pretty sure these are the only familiars you will get.

The familiar you get is based on your Mage's alignment.
Depending on your definition of a "good" familier, you may need to change alignment. Good characters get Pseudo or Fairy Dragons, Neutral characters get household pets, and Evil Characters get Mephits of some sort...

Play around with different alignments to see which you like best!
