The Darkest Day

Post by bored »

Does the darkest day really change the game that much? Ive just started playing it and ive noticed some minor differences, will it be a whole new experience or will it be pretty much the same as playing through the game without it?
Why do we feel bored?
It feels like time passes so slowly but then you think about all the things youve done days, weeks months ago that feel like only yesterday even though they are countless hours passed And nothing feels that long anymore.

TDD

I think over all it adds alot to the game all the new character kits. Spells, monsters, alot of new weapon as well as new quests. I have only played the first level. I found this to be alot harder as well. ;)

It is so damn big. I will never get that without boardband (boardband is it?)....

If you really don't want to have a big download, I don't suggest getting TDD. At least for me, it didn't add much for me. Some spells were cool like Mordenkainen's Fireball and Khelben's Blackstaff. Some of the items were okay too, but nothing special. The quests weren't very enjoyable at all to tell you the truth. They simply weren't made as well as the BDII creaters did. All in all, it's better to have then not because it doesn't take away anything good, it just doesn't add that much.

@Cassius
Really though, what do you expect, it's an entirely volunteer thing, and I think you should show them a little respect. It may be kind of buggy, but it has some interesting side quests to take, and many neat, if uber, items. The NPC's and kits are the real addition to the game. Play with the kits.

@ Obsidian -

I don't think Cassius meant to be ungrateful, but I might be wrong.

TDD was indeed voluntarily created, as you say, but this doesn't mean it has to be less worthy the trouble for one to play it than SoA or ToB for that matter.

@ bored -

From personal experience I have to tell the game crashes often and there are a lot of bugs -- I had been trying almost an hour and half (real time) for finding the entrance at Slums District for completing Adario's second mission. This wasn't supposed to happen (I have downloaded all the latest patches, if you want to know).

I'm sure a lot of us do greatly appreciate team BG's efforts to offer us some additional hours of gaming pleasure, but I am also of the opinion they should have tested it longer before release it. I can't help thinking TDD was made a bit hastily and at some points carelessly, i.e., one time you read on your inventory screen the abilities of a new weapon, and the next there is a blank in its place (?!) Then you have to reload a game...

I haven't finished it yet, but I do hope and expect the new areas and quests to be really interesting. And it's also true that TDD is much more hard to play...

Have in mind that apart from TDD you should download the patches and also a Beta patch in order to minimise the possibilities of bugs and crushes in-game. And I agree with Tamerlane that it's better and cheaper to order it from teamBG than to download it.

Cheers

Cant install TOB as well as TDD either. Its on or the other IIRC.
Is TDD more stable than DSOTSC 'cause that expansion was REALLY buggy. The items were cool though :D

I really don't mean to be ungrateful at all. I commend the TDD makers for doing a whole lot of work for no money. However, I didn't enjoy it that much, and am just giving my opinion to a person who doesn't have broadband, and would take a ton of time downloading it.

I didn't try all the NPC's, Andario looked pretty cool as an NPC assassin, but the other ones weren't very interesting..

..Nor did I try the kits. Call me a powerplayer, but looking through all the kits, I couldn't find one that was very good.

The main thing that turned me off was the quests. For example, the Tapascar quest. I had to fight through 30 Trolls, Ice Gollums, Frost Worms, only to get to a whole new level where I have to fight 50 more of those monsters, through like 5 levels until I finally get to the real thing.

UK edition of either PCZone or PCGamer had TDD on a cover disc. might be able to order back issues. Would probably be cheaper than buying a disc if download time is too large
