Horn of blasting....

Post by nephtu »

Ok, am I stupid or is this pretty much useless? It always harms the user, and I've never gotten it to do anything useful to a monster that I can see. I target things with the spell effect cursor - am I doing something wrong, or is it just a Piece o'junk?

I'm having a similar problem with the Ras dancing sword effect - it never seems to work either. Grrr.......
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

Yeah, I sold the Horn of blasting as soon as I could. I would say it's a peace of junk but somebody is bound to prove me wrong :P so I'll keep my moth shut. :D

i guess it is mainly useless.

yet it is one of the few items i think that go thru any kind of defense, so maybe vs some mages or kangaxx it might actually help (altho ring of the ram is much better for such purpose).
or vs really many of really weak enemies (spider cave...), but then again thats what area spells r for.

i vote for the piece of junk interpretation ;) .

I gave it to my main fighter and it's useful when she gets swarmed.

The damage is minimal but it'll help when there's a horde of nasties surrounding you when you're dying.

If i'm not mistaken there's a merchant in Waukeen's Promenade who can upgrade the Horn of Blasting. I'd have to check some walkthroughs though just be sure i'm not giving you any false hope :D

Ok, i checked, and the answer is : no :o it's the horn of valhalla that you can upgrade. Too bad, never saw the use of it. The possibility of upgrading it would've been nice though.

the horn is actually useful in the hands of a character with some decent saving throws. I find it especially useful in the illithid sewer dungeon. The horn not only breaks through any defenses, it also has a chance to stun all creatures. I had my paladin walk in alone fire the thing off, and hastily wiped out the final part of the dungeon with ease. nice cause it ignores magic resistance and knocks everything back, at least knocks everything back. All in all handy for emergencies or the creative PC. A must for any good bard.
