Which protocol to use for Multiplayer.

Post by Bruce Lee »

I am trying to play BG2 with a friend. I have ADSL and he has cable. Which is the best protocol to use? We tried tcp/ip but it didn't work. We have the same versions of the game, we even tried to shutdown our firewalls and it still didn't work. Before when we were both using modems we could get it to work.
We only get as far as join game and then the message, the multiplayer session has been terminated, comes up with no further explanation.
Help is needed and would be appreciated.

The easiest way is to connect over the net. Go to http://www.gamespy.com and download their freeware (it is named the 'trial version' but is a full working copy). The $20 fee is for additional member priviledges, the software itself is free. You will both need to shut down your firewalls to play :)

You have to use Tcp/Ip going over the Internet. The other protocols would be for LAN games and direct connections. What operating systems are you using and are you guy’s using a router to hit the internet?

I will try gamespy. I am using millenium and he is using '98. I am not sure if I know what a router means, I guess I am not using that then.
Thanks
