My opinion

IMO "pure" fighter class is the best. But everybody has a right to have his/her own opinion, right? :D I mean for singleplay and a full party of 6, offcourse. ;)

Woo Hoo

Well I see the Barbarian is ahead in the votes. Nice to see. I justed stated a solo Barbarian and I have to say he is a very powerful oppenent. With the right gear he is a killing machine. :D

I think a berserker is clearly superior to a barbarian, unless I'm missing something. His berserker ability gives +2 to hit/damage, whereas the barbarians gives +4 str/con. After the underdark, your berserker will have 25str all the time, so the extra +2 is better than a str modifier. Also, the I believe the berserk rage protects against a few more things than the barbarian rage (imprisonment?) - or is this just a typo? Finally, he can wear all the really good plate mails, which not only have a better AC, but better weapon vs. armor modifiers than chain, scale etc.

If you install the grandmastery 'patch' (cheat), things become even more clear. I'm not sure the barbarians damage reduction and speed boost make up for it (the extra 9hp are not a big deal, IMO).
I didn't build that ship for nothing!

wizard slayer

Here how come no one likes the wizard slayer? i've never actually completed the game as one (i prefer thieves to fighters) but 10 percent CUMULATIVE spell failure each hit and basically same as pure fighter is class. more magic resistance would have been nice though.

Not to get into a fighting match but lets not forget the bonus against attacks. Ie slashing crushing ect.

And the HP will be a little higher. And about the rage the only difference is that the barbarian is immune to level drain. Which for me was more important in the begining of the game. And the +4 to strength gives me a 23 strength which will give +4 on to damage and +2 to hit which is better. Until of coarse you get the hammer then who cares we both have 25 str.

And the armour I would say they dragon scale is not to bad to wear -1 base. Anyways they both have there pros and cons.

Lets face it barbarians are the best ;) :D

Well...

Umm...I just finished with a wizard slayer, it's an interesting class to play, though heavily restricted. Not everyone's cup of tea, but worth trying if you like seeing the different flavours of play. That being said, I don't think the class is a good choice for Best kit - of course the whole term begs the question of what makes a kit the best. Personally, I suspect the Berserker gets the edge from a power gaming basis.
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

Well, I like the kensai, but obviously he is much better when dualled...
Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.

...to sorc!!!

but seriously, I dont think the rage is so good, much better is all the time immunity, and I really love the ring of free action, I sometimes get on my main char dire charmed icons, but the free action part kicked in, so I sailed thu, without a worry. but all the immunites of the berserker can be had with devices, so it really comes to be a matter of what attibute you like best. I love the lethal thaco bonuses of kensai, currently with good weapons, I can push high neg 20 s for thaco. I can hit anything with anything.

My first play through was with a wizard slayer, it had a lot of restrictions and really I didn't see that much benefit to it to make it worth all the hassle. I basically had a fighter that couldn't use any potions. As far as dealing with mages, Keldorn made my WS look just plain sick.

I will say he bacame more usefull after ToB however. It is a different experience, especially, when I tried to cast healing spells on my PC only to read...Magic Resistance. But it makes for a good game anyway.

Kensai

I voted Kensai even though I think the class has too many restrictions. After all an Archer gets the same bonuses except to missile weapons but can wear non-metal armor and bracers. I guess this means the Archer could wear shadow dragon scale of Bracers AC 3. I've never played an Archer so I could be wrong about all of this.

Berserker, if only for roleplaying-reasons. I've been a berserkerfan since I started reading The X-men which had Wolverine in it. :)
