Quick question: can Kensai dualed to mage wear elven chain? Robes?
Kensai/mages CANNOT wear bracers.
Neither armors or helmets.
But they can wear Robe of Vecna, and this is just more than enough!
If you want bracers or helmets take a Berserker/mage.
He could wear even the elven-chain, but with the Robe of Vecna
around, this would be real madness.

Here's another question that I'd like some feedback on: What do you think is the optimal level to make the switch from Kensai? I was thinking level 9, though I'd really like to be able to grab the bonuses that come at level 12, but I'm concerned with two things: one being the difficulty to get back up to level 13, the other being the somewhat lowered maximum level (by my math, the highest level I can get going straight through the game is 21 or 22, based on my previous experience of having a character at the final fight with just over 5.3 million exp, minus one million for kensai level 12 will leave 4.3 mil which is level 21). That leaves me with 4 advanced abilities, four level 7 spell slots, three level 8 slots, and two level 9 slots. I'm trying to decide whether the extra kensai strengths will make up for the reduced mage capabilities.
If I could get your thoughts or input on this, I'd appreciate it.

I didn't played ToB yet, but I usualy finished SoA with a 6 members party with around 4 million exp pt. (doing all the quest, included the NPC quests) with exp. cap removed, so I guess tha the whole ToB should aloud you to reach a far higher exp. level, or I'm wrong?
Any way I just started a new game with ToB and I'm playng too a kensai to be dualled to mage.
I think I'll dual it around 12 or 13 (Littiz suggestion), that will mean that I should recover the kensai abilities while still being in chapter 2-3.

Lompo is right, there are LOTS of XP to be gained, but...
don't be fouled by math!
It's true, especially with a party with no more than 5 members,
that you could achieve a very high level in both classes.
BUT, you'll end playing the whole SoA with a single class kensai, then almost all the rest with a single class mage, and only in the very end you'll have your dual char.
Could be fun, but I don't know if this is your thing....
In a party of six, level 9 could be good, otherwise 12 or 13, IMO.
Forget the fighter special abilities, you'll have other powers to
focus on.
As I stated elsewhere, if you are dualwielding (definetely do it!),
with Improved Haste you could ALMOST simulate a whirlwind.
Well, less attacks, but they last 1 round/level!

ah, grab the ToB bug fixes from baldurdash . So the spells will work
as they should.
You know that while improved invisible you have +4 AC and Thac0, right?
And while Tensered you have +4 AC, Thac0 and damage, and so on...
Go on as a mage is better IMHO, I now have four 9th level spells, and the
melee capabilities are MORE than enough! FUN!!!

Try casting Wish....
You can get Improved Haste for all party members, or Hardiness
for the whole party, or stats raised to 25 again for the whole
party....
