Well I think Kensai/mage is great, but what weapon proficiencies should I take?

S

P

O

I

L

E

R

Should I take the dual - wielding style and katanas, but I think they aren't so good, because the best katana you can have is Hindo's Doom in ToB which is "only" a +4 weapon, and there are even +6 weapons in the game? :( Should I maybe take proficiencies with staff (Staff of the magi rocks)? Or should I take some other proficiensies? Please help! :(

I would go for katana (for this reason..)

Also is fitting for the Kensai!
If you want more powerful weapons, you could choose
long sword or scimitar, maybe.
I would use bladed weapons in any case, just for
better roleplaying, and give the Staff of Magi
to someone else...
But maybe that's just me! :)

Is my stats OK (for a Kensai which will dual to a mage at 13th level)?

STR: 10
DEX: 18
CON: 18
INT: 18
WIS: 10
CHAR: 18

Should I redirect stats points somewhere else like WIS or STR?

And also, if I dual at 13th level to a mage, will I be able to achieve 28th level as a mage (I have ToB installed)?

You will need natural 15 STR to dual

Drop 8 from CHA and put it into STR.

In SoA if you have a party of six and dual from lvl 13 Kensai to mage when will you reach lvl 13/14? This is assuming you play out ch 2/3 before going to Brynnlaw.

I suppose you like to have an high charisma.
That is not really needed, but I too use to put many points
in cha.

Keep it if you like.
I'd lower Con, not Dex as you're already without armor.
You won't need Con that much, also an agile kensai may be
slender!
(also you'll cast Find Familiar to gain some HPs)

Maybe just raise Wis a little, useful for Wish and Limited Wish.
Put Con to 10, and all your problems are solved.
If you feel more like powergaming, lower Cha.

Ah, in six members party, SoA only, 13th is really too high. You will
hardly regain kensai abilities, I think.
Do it only if you have ToB, and/or the party is smaller. ;)

I didn't mean SoA only I eventually plan to go to ToB with the same character.

The thing is I have a lvl 11 Kensai right now and he's great. But the further into the game I get the more his high AC hurts. He's totally awesome at the moment but I just can't see him making it through all the way. Am I wrong about this? Are his THAC0 and damage bonuses so great that he kills everything before taking much damage?

I'm guessing if I play out ch 2/3 and dual at 13 I would regain my Kensai abilities after the Underdark.

I'd say the straight kensai suffers more towards the end of SoA then in ToB where they are again really strong. This is due to the fact that everyone seems to hit you in ToB unless your AC is down near -10, -15... keep the straight kensai... they are indeed the coolest class around. Remeber, they always hit first which is a good thing.

I dualled my Thief into a Cleric at level 7 and then imported him into BGII. It's a great combination, though a Cleric is limited in the number of weapons he can use for backstab. The thing I like most about the F/C combination is the way his thieving skills improve with draw upon Holy Might (especially since I had to dual him at level 7 in BGI, which is relatively low-level for SoA and left little room for other thieving skills besides Find Traps/Hide in Shadows and Open Locks).

@Bruce Lee: indeed, but when dualled to a mage you KEEP
hitting first!!
Also you start... casting first!!! :D

Anyway..the bonuses will be great surely with a straight kensai.
Maybe you should follow Bruce's advice and continue with
a pure kensai till the end. I never tried, but it has to
be fun, the kensai kit is very cool.
I'll try it someday in the FAR future..

Undead Hunter

I was wondering what weapons are "paladin weapons"? Can someone please tell me what weapons are best for paladins (I know... Holy Avenger +6 :D ), but apart from two - handed swords? Maces, flails, swords or something else???

Bastard swords and long swords are good weapons for a paladin.

most fun?

thief types.

i've never been a big fan of the thief selection in soa, so the choice was obv. "if you want something done right..."

my fave is the elf ftr/thief (19 dex, long sword/bow bonus) what's not to love, plus they look good (paperdoll / avatar)

some cool equipment that only they can use. (sure it's not very powerfull stuff, but it's neat)

the stronghold was one of the more interesting, and leads to very frenzied play - speed speed, (i'm sorry edwin i'd love to let you sleep in, but i've got bills to pay...)

and you get to be the scout and frontline ftr, i'd love sneaking in to a groub of badguys, stab one of them then have at it w/ dual swords.

mix in some traps, and a great selection of tob abilities and you're off...
