Not easy... I like to play fighter types (inquisitor and barbarian so far) just because if the damage they cant take. However, most of the NPC's in the game are fighter types anyway so maybe you might want to try something you can NOT get via NPC's. Kensai/mage and monk seem to be quite popular as are sorcerers. I'd say it also depends on your playing style. As you said you played each character up to their stronghold quests, do you have any favorite so far?

IMHO it's rather difficult to find *real* good fighter NPC's with maximum physical stats, and a skill distribution of *your* choice, while the mages (Nalia, Imonen) are nearly perfect.

You did use the command to enable the lich and vampire classes, didn't you? Once you do this there is no question, although the game difficulty greatly decreases.

I would say that you should either go as a fighter or a mage.

Both get very nice strongholds. If you go as a fighter then mages are at an abundance for you and you'll end up "The perfect soldier". If you go as a mage then you can save a lot of precious scrolls and equipment since your mage will be more powerful allround than any in the game.

I agree that it would be wise to choose kits that none of the npcs have available, if you're not as me and edit them with the shadowkeeper anyways. In my recent game Valygar is a halfling sorcerer, Mazzy a paladin, Minsc is a beastmaster, Viconia is a cleric/mage and meself is a halforc fighter/druid. Image Long live the custimization!

IMO the sorc! He's cool, and has some advantage over the mage, like choosing spells, casting more of them, you can't learn new spells from scrolls though...you have to decide which ones you take...Ah, reminds me...

The Class that Have HIGHER level is a Bard.
You can get a armor that alows you to cast spells as you try to get the stronghold.
A Bard can fight on his one or serve as a backup spellcaster, it also have the Bard song that is very useful.
The stronghold is a teatre that you have to run.

Ah, right, the Bard...the theatre IS fun...and his high lore comes in handy, too!

I have the most fun playing classes that aren't available as NPCs. You don't get another opportunity to see what a monk, barbarian, or sorceror can do if you don't choose them.

My favorite is a Duel classed Fighter thief.
Mine I did a berserker untill Lvl 8 i think then dueled. He was really hard to work with untill I got him to lvl 9 thief. Now hes a super star.

Well, I don't know enough for my opinion to weigh very heavily but I like my Bard (Skald kit).

Thanks to the person above that suggested playing a kit that was not available from one of the NPCs. I may try that next. Great idea.

I would have liked it if there had been more NPCs available. There seem to be too few melee types.

I agree with Ron.

Start a fighter and set him up with weapon proficiencies for Longsword and dual wield or sword and shield then later dual class him to a thief. After you reach the level when you get your fighter skills back you will have kick ass character. You will have the weapon skills of a fighter and hp's and will have huge backstabb damage and detect traps. You can then get rid of the need for crappy characters like Imoen and yoshimo and nalia. My fighter/thief even kicks Korgans butt in a hand to hand duel. (of course having the best items and godly blood in his veins may help) Image

The dual fighter theif works well the other way around to (although you have lower H.P.) I dualed a swashbuckler(Combat bonuses) to fighter at lvl 10 and you get the extra proficency advancement of the fighter 3 H.P. per level (slow but sure increase) and the Fighter THACO. This character has a 2 better THACO than Korgan and is 1/2 a level lower (They are the same level about half the time) - my 2c Curdis

Thief, definitely. All the other types are available in the game through NPCs, but thieves are certainly lacking. The thief stronghold certainly helps out in the game, and having a thief is tons of fun. Totally different strategies than with any other class. The dual class of berserker-thief is one of the best combos in the game, IMHO.

I'm thinking of having a DRUID, but I'm not to sure if I can duel it to a thief or something like that.

You can dual a druid to a fighter. I like totemic druids for this.

Another option someone posted a few days ago, start with a kensai and dual to a druid. Very effective. I would choose to start with a berserker, but it doesn't seem to fit a druid, however. Ah, the dilema...
