Every time I try to get my avatar it keeps saying it cannot be larger than 50 by 50 dimensions, or something like that anyway.

You should be able to shrink it down to 50 Pixels x 50 Pixels. Or you could upload it as an attachment to your post and one of us will resize it for you

what program are you using? most have something under 'stretch' or 'transform' that can resize the thing
