When you install Ascention the .tlk file should go to the main directory and all the rest (except maybe some of the txt files) should go into the override directory. Are the files making it into the override or is everything going into the main directory? If everything is going into the main then you need to make sure whatever zip program you are using is extracting files into the proper subdirectories. (If for whatever reason you can't make your zip program do this, then extract everything into a new, empty directory and move the .tlk, .txt and .doc files to the BG2 main directory and the rest into the override.) Restore the game to its previous, pre-ascention state before reinstalling ascention just in case. (You might have some problems figuring out which files to delete from the main directory if everything went into that directory.)

If everything is making its way to the proper directories, then I don't know how to help you. (Note that Ascention doesn't replace the entire override directory, it just replaces some files and add many more.)

That shouldn't matter, but anything's possible I guess. One thing though, you won't be able to turn into the Slayer until you've been to Spellhold and have had the 'You have been given a gift, one you had better appreciate." Imoen Dream.

Ascension doesn't really come into effect until you reach about the end of ToB, so if you're still playing SoA, you won't notice any difference - except for the few AI adjustments that were included. Your character will still need to get the Slayer change ability like normal, the change that came with Ascension is the power of the Slayer - which increase as you increase in level; you don't automatically get the ability when you reach a certain level.
