Planar Sphere (Spoilers)
Planar Sphere (Spoilers)
I just completed the Planar Sphere Quest. What's with the high level halfing spellcasters? Is this just some more NPCheese?

The Sphere has traveled through many dimensions. Since the guardian (the giant golem) was out of commission, various dangers came on board--the beholder, the fire and water elementals, etc. The halfling mages are simply another very nasty and unexpected threat your party has to face. I don't know what you mean by cheese; that word's usually used in a way that means methods of manipulating a game's rules to win--just this side of cheating.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
What I mean by NPCheese is that some NPCs in the game do things that my PC couldn't do. AFAIK I couldn't create a halfling mage. There are other examples like Anomen dualling to cleric with only 12 wisdom.Originally posted by fable

I made a bad choice of words. What I mean is the only elves, half-elves and humans can be mages.Originally posted by fable
You also can't create an elven vampire. That doesn't mean halfling mages are impossible. It only signifies something that happened outside the range of possibilities open to the average--or shall we, above average--citizen. The halfling mage, like the beholder, isn't native to your land, and that dimension-traveling sphere gave the developers a great opportunity to throw in a few more unlikely possibilities than the rest of BG2. I just wish they'd done a little more, in there.
BTW is there anyway to help the Knights of Solamnia if your not a mage?
