Ranger Kit Duals

Post by Silver »

I was planning to start another new game, this time as a dual classed ranger/cleric (I hate multi-classes for some reason). Since there were only going to be 3 people in the party I was going to try a stalker/cleric for the haste spell and the backstab ability, but unfortunately I found out that stalkers can't dual. I tested this with the other ranger kits and found that they couldn't dual either, but the true ranger definately can. Does anyone know why this is? Was it intentionally implemented or is it some sort of bug? Is there a 'fix'?

Any help is apreciated, thanks.

@Locke Yes fable :rolleyes:
:D

As for dualing kits, I thought you could, silly me. Make sure you have the proper stats, so for a ranger/cleric dual, you have to have AT LEAST 17 str, 17 dex, 17 con and 18 wisdom.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

ive played ranger/cleric before... i did it with true ranger and i think true ranger would probably the best because many powerful enemies actually worth backstabbing are immune to it and they cant wear good armors (one of few advantages against ken/mage)... haste spell is really a factor in the beginning of the game but doesnt really help because you gain it after you gain boots of speed (at least one anyway) so it would be better just to use (if you have 3 chars one of them is not melee is she?) improved haste (one of boots of speed's daily special abilities) and boots of speed on other fighting char.

archer? probably not... only missile weapon a cleric can use is sling... with everard, definite advantage, but probably not for 3 char party because without definitive melee character in 3 ppl party, if they ever get close youre gonna pay (unless you run, that is) what was the last one? i dont even remember their name because that class is piece of ****... they r the druids with almost no spells and no advantage almost... only person ive known who played it (and solo too!!!) was playing it because of the 'challenge' of a crappy character (top was avenger who gets -2 str and con and second, the very class)... he played almost every solo with bad chars... not sorc or ken/mage they too powerful he said... and most fun being the bards...

hmm anyway i made my char strong melee char with true ranger dualed to cleric @ level 13... (level 12 you get extra procifiency and 13 you get major saving throw bonuses, as all warriors do) i use two weap style w/ CF and FoA really nice combo actually (except with belm which clerics cant use...*sob*)... ranger/cleric multi class has definite advantage later on because think of the possibilities... holy powers, draw upon holy might, righteous magic, bless, chant, death ward, protection from cold or fire depending on the situation, shield of the archons... throw in a greater whirlwind on that...squash em flat with one of 'em blunt weaps. (the thing i like about blunt is that they tend to blow enemies up more often and it looks WAY more barbaric especially in the hands of a half-orc, as opposed to swords... they represent honor and justice and goody stuff... they should go to hell...!!) (oh yeah off topic but as a side note: isnt it weird when you blow up an air elemental or shadow or such? all the flesh just suddenely appears...)
BAH. I wish you all well on this relatively good day.

boots of speed r not what they once were. seems to me like some patch disabled the extra attack u should get from haste, u still get it from the spell but not from boots.
and they never had any daily abilities. imp haste is on gaxx, but it lasts quite short (not more than 1-2 rounds).

I definately followed all the dual-class rules, but unfortunately I think ranger kits can't be dualled although the normal ranger can-I've tried it and it works fine. Is there a reason for this or is it just a mistake on the publisher's behalf? Is it anything to do with PnP rules, possibly?

BTW my party was going to be a sorcerer, swashbuckler/fighter and a stalker/cleric. I wanted the stalker to get flame arrow, skull trap, dispel and slow for the sorcerer early on, without having to worry about haste.

I think it's a general rule that kits can't be dualled into another class without hacking. However, if you import a dualled character from BGI into Shadows of Amn, you get to chose a kit for the first class as a perk (correct me if I'm wrong).

nope, what about all the kensai-mages and kensai-thieves?

the option to dual a ranger kit was available in SoA, and got trashed in ToB, for some reason. I even vaguely remember a thread here or on the BIS boards about it, too lazy to run a search :o

the way i see to get a stalker 13-cleric is to create a salker, play him up to lvl 13, then change his kit to True Class in ShadowKeeper, thus keeping all the stalker abilities. Then dual, and get the ranger back (with stalker abilities) at lvl 14.

this should work.

edit: maybe you have to change the kit back to stalker in order to get the mage spells.

Well actually you can dual Kensais, Berserkers, Assassins and so on, so it is strange that you can't dual ranger kits.

For Silver:
apart the fact if is possible or not to dual a ranger kit, remember that a Stalker gets the mage spells at level 12 (while the druids at lv.8), and a Stalker dualled to cleric will have restriction on armour and some difficulties at backstabbing (due to cleric weapon restriction), so all in all the best ranger kit to be dualled to cleric is definitly tha plain ranger.

My mistake... my Berserker only has Wisdom 16/Intelligence 16 and couldn't dual... I assumed it was naturally so for all classes (though I should be able to dual him to a Thief with 20 Dexterity)

@lompo: i beg to differ. clubs and staves are EXCELLENT backstabing weapons:

the gnasher: backstab & bleeding, use on spelcasters (my single-class stalker uses it always for the backstab, than switches to other weapons, even though he doesn't have any prof's in club)

blackblood: general good 1handed backstab, plus acid damage

staff of striking, staff of the ram - highest damage, esp. if combined with rigtheous magic for stalker-cleric

as for armours, imho there are enough really good ones astalker can use, and the stalker-cleric will get ironskins, and alot, thus the AC factor becomes not that relevant.

the only problem i see is that the backstab will only get to x3 for level 13 stalker, but with small party you may want to wait till you get it higher
