Yes, it is possible to solo BG1, even Durlag's Tower. I just finished a fighter-thief solo - check here for details.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

that's just my personal opinion but, the easiest class to solo is a fighter with a bow, a very difficult will be a thief - I play as a thief in my me&immie bg1-to-tob project and it's difficult and a single thief will be even harder to play... you better avoid soloing a mage btw... ;)

For weapons???? what class you are dousn't mind, go for bows (so don't solo a cleric or a mage).

And warhammers (blunt) is a good idea cause the warhammer+2 is very powerfull against armour!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Mage is one of the best solos

Magery gets to be one of the less difficult and more fun solo games after the first two chapters...

Easier than a thief.

Yeah, with a solo mage you're totally helpless until level 3, after that there is little that can stop you.

No way a level 3 mage can beat 5 bandit's at the same time.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

if you want to solo a mage class try the fighter/mage or the thief mage (gnome, so you're an illusionist, and this way get an extra spell per level)
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Sure he can:
Mirror Image, sleep, blind and missle weapons is all you need to beat a lot of things.

Sure, but a mage doesn't (have to) rely on his weapons as much as most other classes...

And it totally depends on the type of mage too. I would say an Illusionists and Conjurers are the least difficult to solo, while Necromancers and Enchanters are almost friggin impossible, for these reasons :
Necros cant learn mirror image or invis
Enchanters cant learn magic missle

How about an F/M/T-multi solo?

Negotiating the initial stages will be tough for sure (until you level up some), but if you are planning to take it all the way to ToB (solo), this is one of the most powerful uber characters you can get.

The only problem with either the Fighter or Mage solo classes is the lack of Thieving ability (obviously) in BG there is a large requirement for a Thief, i think that the dual f/t is a good combination.

Solo Thief

Well a couple of days ago I just started to play Baldur's Gate again. I decided to take my first shot at solo'ing the whole series. I Have played this game many times with many different classes and now I'm going back to my favorite class the Thief. I got to character creation, and make a elven thief.

So far my Thief is lv.2 with the following stats:
Str:14
Dex:19
Con:14
Int:12
Wis:12
Cha:14

(The above stats are without the tomes)

The thief's strongest abilities at the moment are Stealth and Lockpicking, As soon as he goes up his next level I will put 15 of the points into Find Traps and 5 into Pickpockets, He will still end up with rather high abilities once he reaches the cap.

Remove the ex cap, you have a hard time soloing with the excap on!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

An XP cap remover is absolutely necessary for soloing. I've gone through with a Bard and a Thief/Mage, but now I'm going with a Fighter/Thief and it's almost easy.

It depends, a single class character can reacht level 16 if i'm, not mistaken.
And a level 16mage is almost unstoppable.

But when you solo you usually solo a multi class, and thus level 8of each class.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
