Your first reaction? (NO SPAM)

Post by Weasel »

Thanks to (aka Foul) and his warm welcome to anybody coming to SYM from any of the other forums. :D

I would like to know what your first reaction..thoughts are on the group, groups, person or persons you encountered on your first trip to SYM.

Chaos? Insane? Where do these people come from? Ect....

I expect some spam, but only ask to keep it close to the topic. This is a survey for Buck. :D

Well I do admit Foul can make a great welcoming party, especially paired with Ubik & Ol' Wanker himself :D :D

Anyway, I still remember how the good ol' days when GB only have the BG forum. It has small group of people back then.......but after a while perhaps because we all finished the BG and got bored in particularly, comes the Goody - where all Hell break loose, since BG2 took quite a time too appear, while SoA seems less challenging. It's like French Revolution or may be like Spanish Inquisition back then, with a big temptation of SPAM comes wave by wave - later on most of member being tainted by SPAM especially with the opening of "Down with Aerie" and "Role Playing" thread. I must admit we have crazy days back then, not to mention the race of post numbers and race of top page. When the Double Identity scandal emerges, I hardly know who's who that day - but all on all they're good peeps and loyal to GB.

With the creation of SYM and lots of New Gens emerging it's good to see that Bucks hardwork finally become fruitfull (I mean not on SYM but on the whole GB site). AFAIK SYM still consist of nice peeps with incredible sense of humor - but to adapt on the SYM style sometimes require more time since there're lots of variety on the SYM. But that's what makes SYMer unique than others.....even other forums from other site :)
I'm not dead yet :D :p

I was very much a lurker in the old days and observed a hell of a lot in the Baldurs Gate forums. I have to say, watching all of those people talk about nothing in a game related forum was interesting... :D :D

Seriously though, I enjoyed it, I think it scared me a little with the way some of you were posting, but it was funny and I did enjoy it. :D :D

I was here at the beginning, and I will be here at the end dammit. I believe I had one of the first 10 or so posts in SYM. At the time Grunt was still untamed, Ubik was a raunchy as ever, and the lovely Chrissy prowled the forums. Oh, yes, and there was this Weasel fellow...

I came here by the Baldur's Gate forum. Then I looked around on the rest of this place and came here..... been stuck ever since. :D
It's nice to discusse things / spam / lurk / and just have a laugh here. It's the whole site that made it what it is today. The game forums, roleplaying forums and ofcourse SYM.

I happened into SYM after following a post from BG2 :) I was initially a little intimidated by the rate at which some posted *laughs now* and some did appear cliquey. I know now this is not the case, and SYM is actually a more receptive place than many sites I have visited :) Lots of nice people, interesting debates to lurk and pubs to frequent!! :D It definitely is more of a community than some I have come across :) *Tries to remember back* I think it was between DW, Georgi, Fable and Grunty who spoke to me first! ;) LOL!! Actually Gruntboy flirted! :D

@BS - it is obvious now that you deserved it! :D ;)

I hope he doesn't. :D

I was an early timer too, and I was ensnared through BG2 site. I was asking some questions, and got flamed by Gruntboy. I flamed him back and he disappeared. I searched around for a while and discovered where he was hiding......
Come not between the Witch King and his prey, or he will not slay thee in thy turn, but will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the lidless Eye.

'Started off at BGDungeon, one of the largest and arguably best BG forum before it became a victim of its own success, before migrating over to the Gamebanshee BG2 forums (circa April 2001) and eventually ending up posting here after having learned every secret and completing every quest (x20) in the game. 'Been here ever since, though my schedule unfortunately doesn't permit to lurk or post or debate as often as I'd like. The thing that first attracted me to the forums was the BG2 message board, but what has and kept me here since is the level of maturity among the memberssip, compared to other forums I've participated in, whose more serious and controversial threads degenerate into spam and flame within the first few pages. I think the Moderators here are less tolerant, but more serious about enforcing the rules, but given the choice I prefer it this way than vice versa.

First trip to SYM was an eye opener for me as I hadn't been that into online stuff. I came from BG2 and remember being so interested that I read back through pages and pages. But what did I think of the people?

Alexia: I thought she was the coolest thing ever, she seemed to keep the men in line. I watched quietly from the shadows to learn how it was done. :D

T'lainya: I was scared of her. She was established and seemed to have a sharp wit. I wasn't sure how she would react to another red head, especially with the aggressive way she dealt with some of the men :)

Minerva: Ditto on the scared part. I was nervous of all the other women at first :)

Grunt: A bit intimidated. I was never sure how he would react or what he would say. That's why he was my first flame attempt. :D

Foul: I liked him immediately, though I was a bit unsure of his tendency towards blood and mayhem.

Flagg: Flirt.

Waverly: The suave, mysterious man of the board. :) *hug*

It wasn't until I met Ysh, Georgi and DW that I started feeling more sure of SYM, less scared of being flamed :)
