enhanced party conflicts (or: whom to chose or not to chose)

Post by mabrook »

Just read a thread with the topic "party conflicts" here.
So I wondered whether somebody can give me a complete list of real conflicts within a party. I mean the conflicts that make it (on the long run) impossible to keep certain combinations in your party.
For example: I know there is a "problem" with Edwin and Minsc. This happend to me once.
And I heard about probs with Keldorn and Viconia. Is this true?
Are there more of this?

Thanks for your appreciation of this topic for all people making up their party

i've had Keldorn with Viconia in a party, and Minsc with Edwin too. They never did much more than barf at each other, sometimes intervened by my PC, which was in both occasions Neutral Good with 19 charisma (not sure if this matters in these conflicts). so i'd say there can be problems with those NPC's together in a party, but it doesn't necessarily lead to them leaving the party (so not "impossible"). the way i experienced it, it seems like a lot depends on the party leader (which was my own PC).

Aerie and Korgan have problems that lead to drop one of the two (but they won't fight but Aerie may actually leave the party).

Aerie and Anomen (if Anomen fail his test)
Aerie and Haer'Dalis (if you're romaning Aerie)
Aerie and Korgan
Anomen and Keldorn (if Anomen fail his test)
Edwin and Keldorn
Edwin and Minsc
Edwin and Valygar
Keldorn and Viconia

All of these things are resulted from party interactions - except for the Aerie and Haer'Dalis, which is due to romance dialogues. The party interactions are very random, so sometimes they might not happen at all.

Does anyone know if PC alignment and/or charisma have any effect on the outcome of these conflicts/dialogs ?

No; the PC's stats, alignment, party's reputation have nothing to do with the outcome of the fights between NPCs. The dialogue are based on a random trigger within the NPC's scripts - so the conflict might not happen at all for some people and happen almost instantly for others.

hey sabre, long time no see!!!

mabrook and spirit, sabre is the god, I think he taught me how to set the global variable,

"korganaeriegrump" to 0 to stop the countdown of doom until aerie threatens to leave if korgan is not kicked out.

other variables I think exist for all other conflicts. sabre would be the authority on them. oh hey, sabre, buddy, here is a funky thing, just discoved it today. if you clua in "belt05", belt of gender, and equipp just before meeting phaere, you can get the whole phaere flirt routine even if your pc is female.

so its not based on the game engine "reading" your pc's true gender, but the changeable state of current gender. wierd, huh???

funny thing is, I wonder if the dialogs would break if the pc is in romance with anoweenie, as no script chains exist for that possibility...I think...icky but could be fun for someone to try out...
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

I know Edwin can be found somewhere in the Dock District (I had him in my party in a previous game BG2), but where exactly? Somwhere in that Inn, where that guy is that Bloodscalp wants dead. Is Edwin in the top of the building? Is there a secret passage somewhere?

BTW I have chosen for Bodhi, so having Edwin in my party might not even be an option.

Spoilers!
Is Edwin in the top of the building?

Yes, Edwin is on the third floor. You need to do some quests for him before he joins you.

If you have sided with Bodhi, perhaps you have a prior saved game which you can load, get Edwin, then side with her.

There is no way of checking the base gender setting, so it's depend on the gender of your character when you talk to her.

What's the conflict between Aerie and Anomen(if he fails his test)? I must have missed that one somehow.

Thanx

Uhh, there are so many problems with the NPCs?
Didn't know that. Thanks to Sabre for that list.
So this means, Edwin fighting Minsc is a random thing. Then I had bad luck, since it happend to me VERY soon after picking up Minsc.
It depends (IMO) on real time passing, not game time. I took Edwin into my party and he almost immidiately provoked Minsc a bit about his witch and such (IIRC). Then I paused the game and came back after 1,5 hours or such and unpaused it. Then they started to have heavy arguments and it ended in Minsc beating up Edwin *sigh* Since then I never took Edwin into my party again.

@userunfriendly: Just read your post about mazzy and her arrows! aMaZiNg! Must try that out too sometime. I LIKE archers so this is the way to go. thnx

Life is short. Play more.
