Why He Did It? or Immortality?
Why He Did It? or Immortality?
Hey, I got to the end, with a 24 wis and the bronze sphere, but I couldn't use it.Then I found out that you need an Int of 16, but I am a fighter, and while I have a Str of 25, my Int is 9.
Here's where you guys come in....If you can, please tell me why the original incarnation became immortal, and his name.
Thank you.
P.S There are obviously spoilers, so if you don't want to know, don't read the responses.

Well i would suggest you go through that game again as a different class, but i will answer your question anyway, you don't have to read it you know
Spoiler!
Regret, basically he regretted his actions in his lifetime so he became immortal so he could repay his debt to society, a community service if you like, only the experiment with Ravel didn't quite work and he ended up forgetting it all. His name has been discussed before, it could be Adahn, it could be anything, his name isn't really as important as what the name means as a symbol and a defining of self.....but anyway, i think that is more down to interpretation. There are a lot of unanswered questions in Planescape, which is one of it's more attractive features. Hope that cleared some of it up

I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.
Well, here's my take on it.
SPOILER!!
Seeings how in the mid to later game, you start hearing a lot about the blood war, and wondering if you were involved, and the two fiends in the smolderin corpse bar, it leads me to believe that you may have had some big role in the war. Perhaps you let the war spill over into another plane, or caused a surge of fiends to enter Sigil. It would have to have been serious, but not necceseraly intential. Seeings as the first incarnation, and we know that he was good from the end of the game, it would make him want to repent his actions (Regret), so he had to go to one of the most evil entities in the Multi-verse, Ravel, in order to extend his life because it would take centuries of good to make up for what he did.
Of corse that's my theory, and it may (and probably is) wrong.
See Ya

@Salabesh, sounds like a good theory However again it is down to interpretation, you could mix and match many different theories and come up with the one that settle's with you the best. Your theory would make sense since it is consistent with the whole Blood War implementation. Go you!

...Which may very well explain why the NO has to then serve a time in Hell. Though I suspect, had there ever been another PS:T, it would have dealt with your time down in that fun paradise.Originally posted by Platter
You actually need 17 INT, not 16.
The Good Incarnation, who is actually the original incarnation before NO became immortal, tells you that he was evil and only became less evil later on. He did not try to repent to "repay his debt to society," but to avoid being damned to hell.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Platter, my theory could also support that, in fact it's the same if he was evil.
If he was evil (probably was, haven't played in a while) it would give him more reason to try to make up for what he did as he wants to save himself from eternal damnation in the Blood War, so he would have no qualms about going to Ravel for help.

I always play this game with max mage and warrior skills - I use the Under Sigil area to make him godlike since that is what he was. By the time I meet my soul, he kicks righteous booty and nothing - shadow demons, puzzles, killer traps, etc can stop him.
Gotta agree with that; mage is the most satisfying class to play. I also use the Undersigil and Black Abishai trick to level up.
BTW, what level were you yet when you met your soul?
Re: Re: Why He Did It? or Immortality?
You have the raise dead ability because you've died so many times, that's what Deionarra tells you.
At least one of NO's previous incarnations was a Sensate, but there is nothing in the game that indicates the original incarnation was.Originally posted by UncleScratchy
Remember - NO was a Sensate originally, therefore, his driving force was to experience everything possible. He was also an extremely powerful mage - he has the ability to resurrect the dead for example.

To answear your question about the name, we (the players) never found out. In the game the main character learned his name, but they did not tell us what it was.
They did something like this:
You learned your name, you gain 100000xp.
They did something like this:

Build a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and you keep him warm for the rest of his life.
This was my first time thru the game, (fixing to start again) I finished at level 23 in the Fighter class, (I was also at level 15 in both the Mage and Thief class) Got both of the bonus stats in the Fighter class.Originally posted by Baldursgate Fan

Great Weasel! I am sure you will gain even higher levels on your second round.Originally posted by Weasel

It's an open secret by now that the mage class is the most fun in terms of more dialog options, xp and bonuses gained, use of higher level spells (Mechanus Cannon and Ax of Torment are my favorites!).
Try it and see.
Cheers.
Is it the class that gives you more options or your stats?Originally posted by Baldursgate Fan

(Instead of starting over right now, I have a quick save right before Trias, I think I will swap Classes here to a mage and finish the game with it, >>> head to Under Sigil first and get my levels up<<<<)
Here is something I found, after you get back to Sigil, head to Ragpickers and talk to Martha...

Oops, it's the stats.
I normally pump up my Wisdom and Intelligence whenever I get the chance.

1. A big stat gainer for a mage is completing the Circle of Zerthimon with Dak'on.
2. While you are a fighter, you can equip TNO with the cursed gauntlets of teeth which you can get near Martha's house. Turn him back to mage and use the gauntlets in conjunction with the spell "fist of irons". I forgot the stats for the two; what I know is that TNO then becomes a killer machine with an average of 18 points per hit.
Quite incredible.

my teori!
Well first of all, i have made it with less intelligence than that, you can kill the practical incarnation. and still use the bronze sphere to get out!. It dosn't change anything in the end!.
and now my own private NO teori!.
I think he was a stupid young man, and either because he was ignorant, or greedy.. Ravel (who either did it by magic, or was a LOT pretty'er then) sort of tricked him into the ritual. maby he as i said was blinded by love, fear of death or greedyness.
And as we all know the ritual didn't work as expected... all in all i think the original incarnation was a naive ung man (much like you are in the game). wanting to do right!
As far as the name thing, you can read in the tomb of NO that he had many names. And i think that Adahn is the original name. Otherwise why would it pop up all the time?!..
If we ever get a Torment2, maby we will get it answerd! *L*
