I think we ought to look at what we want to do once the guild is established. What will the BotB stand for? What will we want to do? If we're just to be adventuring, there is already a adventurer's guild for that. I thing we ought to try and get some things accomplished politically or socially in the Argyle world.

Would we:

Work toward re-establishing a king for "Zamollia" and perhaps a new (old) nation?

Strive to eliminate the Spires of the ancient Mage-Kings?

Seek out and destroy Blackguards?

Work toward eradicating demons from the face of Argyle and putting a stop to those who employ demons for their own use?

Offer our services to another king, such as the ruler(s) of Arberdan, or maybe even Shroudgard?

I really think we ought to come up with a direction for the guild. We used to fight for causes, and as descendants and followers, we wanted to bring back the guild and the Academy.

Banshee divisions fought on the side of good in every major battle across the land of Argyle until just a few generations ago.

Shouldn't we want to continue that tradition if we want to re-establish the guild? What do you all think?

To me, it sounds the most logical that if you rebuild a guild, it'll be for the same goal as it used to be. Contienuing the tradition of the past. A problem whould be that evil characters would be doing good instead of evil.

Not neacesarily - if they "do good" for their own personal motives, I see no problem with them maintaning an evil alligenment.
They might "do good" because they feel it is an excellent way to gain power over other people. (What better way to gain power, than make peolple trust and respect you) or some other reason.

And if "evil" people aren't allowed in the guild - why should neutral. Their motives for doing good - might differer from "good" peoples motives, and thus can't be counted as good.

I would like to see our guild be a kind of beacon for peace and prosperity - like with our acceptance of all races, classes (including magic) etc we can shape the Argyle to come (so to speak). But this is not actually a "good" (alligned) vision - because ei. mage-hate(tm) will make it evil in some aspect (magic users are evil)

That we have neutral and evil people in the guild imo only adds to the possibility of roleplaying some nice conflicts.

EDIT: and btw we must remember - before we come up with a reason for the guild, is that the guild dosen't exists.
A reason can only be for what we should do when the guild excists.

I agree, though I see no problem with having very few evil people in the guild. Making it generally good aligned doesn't mean that we can't have other characters in Argyle be evil, and it doesn't mean we can't have evil characters in the guild. As Xan said, it just means we have to come up with a reason they're in a generally good aligned organization. But, hey!, we all have to come up with reasons each of our characters are in the BotB, so I don't feel this is too much of a stretch.

Xan, I think Zamollia stood for racial and class tolerance, due to the benevolence of the rulers and escaping out from under the harsh rule of the mage-kings. Mage-hate (tm) disn't exist as strongly in old Zamollia, it sounds. , Thus, I agree with you; we should foster similar ideals in the Blades. While this could be viewed as "good", it is simply part of our history.

This would be nice, as we would then actually offer something to Argyle. Beyond the guild domination context. Plus the TATers always do go on about us (ie. the players) being able to alter the timeline.

I agree with a lot that has been said here: I think the foremost priority of most potential members would be revenge against the Blackguards.

That being said, I also agree (with Xandax) that this discussion may be premature. The way I read the guild biography, many of us may not even KNOW who or what we are. For example, I do not plan on "knowing" about the Blades until after I have met with a number of them, and I do not plan on having ANY knowledge of what they were or that one of my relatives was once a member.

Once I do learn of all this, revenge will probably NOT be my concern. I would more likely become a member for my own reasons, which may or may not have anything to do with the actual history of the guild.

Does that make sense?

I've just finished my bio for Xandax and gotten positive responce from both Pranker and Rhino at Argyle.
In it my character knows of a dark forces hunting him and that his great grandfather was a "Banshee".
That is all he knows about the guild

Well, whatever we do, it will prolly start small. The goals we work towards could only be carried out on a local level, perhaps working closely with the authorities present, that being if the authorities are just. If not, one of our first objectives might be toppling the corrupt organizations in our area. Eventually we might expand our influence, perhaps in time affecting all of Argyle.

I know this doesn't really contribute an answer as to what we stand for, but it's just something to keep in mind. I think, initially, our cause will be decided by the Argyle characters that re-institue the Blades of the Banshee. As time goes along, new members will begin to influence our goals as well. We'll have to watch for corruption within just as much as we look for external threats.

Can anybody explain what all this is about? As you see next to this reply, I am a newbie (my PC hasn't even been approved yet). What is Argyle? Is it some plane like the Forgotten Realms? Amnd where would we be fighting Blackguards? In the upcoming game NWN? Are we going to fight against other guilds?

Please tell me everything a newbie has to know....

By the way. I joined the guild because I wanted to find some nice ppl to play the upcoming game NWN with, so I can play with ppl whom I know are dedicated players.

But if this guild is going to venture in an ongoing world with other guilds, I would be happy to help. I just want to get the most fun out NWN

Also, you should read up the lore here on this forum. We've got our guild history, which is based in Argyle.

If you don't want to play in Argyle, it's cool, cuz I think there will still be plenty of opportunities for us to Multi-player together.

I'm sure someone can provide a better answer than what I've given you.

Rob-his has a point about the evil alignment characters. I myself am going to play as a neutral evil half-elf. But not because im dead set on doing evil. My evil traits mainly to do with a certain revenge factor that i myself must deal with. Really has nothing to do with the blades of the banshee. i guess what im really trying to get at is that although my character is an apprentice of a decsendent and have sought them out for protection and guidence. In other words, i would be faithful to the blades and do whatever if needed of me. So although im an evil aligned player, i do intend on doing good for the blades and for myself. And if anyone wants a little job done and doesn't want to get their hands dirty, well so be it. Evil is the way

Just cuz im evil doesn't mean im a bad person LOL

Well, By your desciption, Artemis, I'd say your character isn't evil. Maybe neutral, as he is out for revenge against someone has commited a wrong against him, but I don't believe that makes him evil.

Infact, if this grievance affected not only you, but society, then it is a good trait that you look for vengence for it.

If it's personal, neutral is the correct alignment.

Evil...

I think playing evil in a game such as this will be alot more then alot of people think. There seems to be a current fad that being evil is cool etc etc.

I personally see that attitude as a real sad example (not saying you artemis this is just a kinda rant on evil)

I will be an evil player, so am I being a hypocrite here? Some may say yes though I will disagree. I have firm clear ideas of what I, Severoth wants to achieve over his career. I also wont be advertising that Im evil in game *hopes people dont metagame* and generally being a quiet and moody individual (given to outbursts of violence and attacking people that insult him in bad situations)

On good and evil in a guild though, I personally have problems. I dont think your wrong for doing so, its just that a guild usually comes together for a joint purpose. Evil people want things and will go at any length (or almost) to get what they want. In a guild of good players you could see alot of conflict and although this would offer for some choice roleplaying aspects it would also put you at the point of what to do with evil characters that break the law? They would be a problem to the guilds good standing, and you may have to eject people from the guild to save your reputation and even then ejecting people would not change that alot.

To me a guild is a group of like minded people in RL who all want to achieve the same goals in game. I personally see alignments that contradict each other such as good and evil not being in them. I can see good and neutral or neutral and evil but the two extremes. Although it might offer alot of roleplaying options it could also cause you to loose members in game which would be a shame since you have all waited so long to be a guild together.

Also Artemis your character may very well be evil. A good and very basic way to define evil would be to ask your character these questions..

Would I kill someone for money?

Would I sell guildies out for power and money if I can do it without being caught?

Would I kill an innocent to cover my tracks?

Would I kill someone for revenge?

If you answer yes to some of these (or all of them) you are over the line or getting close to it.

On the revenge note saying yes is not really evil but getting close to it. It all depends why they killed the person or people that are close to you for. What if they are killing because your master hurt them? Possibly a person should look into this.

If you did play a neutral evil character you are wholly out for yourself. You dont care about killing your mother for money or selling your best mates out. Its all about getting ahead. There is only one person in this world you care about and its you.

Yes there are some situations where they may stick with you through thick and thin, but ultimately a neutral evil character cant be relied upon. One day someone will offer them a deal they cant refuse (their life) and they may just sell you out.

I personally will be a lawful evil character. A set rigid line of ethics that I hold that make me a better person. I wont have qualms about killing people get in my way, but I can still appreciate the benefits of my guild and why I stick with them.

A fairly long rant, but evil just makes me feel the need to type. also these are my views on things and not anyone elses so dont take them to heart

Hey nice post Sev. One thing I see when I see Lawful Evil players is that the real life people consider LE'ers to be completely independent and on their own, but by nature you (LE) live within a society in a strict rule. Will Severoth work with other people or will he be guild related only?
