Shouldn't you clean your room?
While I am typing this out on my roommates computer, I was looking around at my room, I share it of course, but I noticed that a large portion of what was moving around was mine. Bits of sand paper, from my last art project, toilet paper, a pair of leather boots, couple of cardboard boxes, some bottles of mineral water, my leather jacket, lots of books lying around, some window cleaner, some left over chewing gum, one or two left over Lord of the rings mugs, and some Heavy Metal magazines, some self tanning lotion, some laundry detergent, my dragon sculpture, some of my journals followed by a large assortment of papers which I really should organize and pack away but am simply to lazy to. Some paints, and mortar, along with a old solar oven I made last semester.
The kitchen of course is much worse, days old dishes lie in the sink, little bits of grease lying on the oven from the hamburgers my roommates fix up, open bags of Dorritoes, two of them, and a overflowing garbage bin, which nobody bothers to attend because I guess each of us is just hoping the other will clean it up. There used to be roaches, where they went I don't know, maybe when the spiders decided to colonize the dorm, the roaches all left, It was a pity I think the roaches actually helped keep some of the mess down. No beer bottles although that does happen, does it ever get clean, every time a girl comes over I usually have the impulse to clean some of it up, my roommates for some reason don't. In any case any horror stories about your room, shouldn't you clean your room.

I care not for endings or beginnings, but for the eternal and infinite spaces of the universe, and for the endless exploration of eternity, and mysteries which I will find plumbing the infinite depths.
"Do not turn inward to find peace and wisdom, turn outward instead to find liberation from the narrow boundaries of self", quote from Gary Paul Nabhan, paraphrased of course
"When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong" quote from Arthur C. Clarke, thought it was interesting.
Tips on living longer: eat right, exercise, and yes castrate yourself, eunuchs live longer then normal people.

From my experience in life..31 years believe it or not...I have found it's easier to just move once 85% of the space is taken up.Originally posted by AbysmalNature

A quick quiz.
(1)Do you need a baseball bat to move around?
(2)Has a member of your family went miss going to the bathroom?
(3)Does your dog or cat fight not to come inside?
If you answered yes to any of these question, pack a clean pair of underwear (If you can possible find any) and wait for everyone to go to sleep. Push the car out of the driveway and 1 block down the road. Crank the car and drive at 140 MPH to another town (Make sure it's at least 150 miles away from the last place)
Now this is only a temporay solution, the wife and kids, with dog and cat in tow, will track you down. Still you will have a home for a while with only 24% of the space taken.
Repeat as often as needed.

I had a roommate in college who would buy new dishes before he'd wash the ones he had. Nice as hell guy and mechanical genius, but a world-class slob.
At one point we had 21 standing violations of the campus housing code including possession of industrial-strength chemicals, firearms, drilling holes through the wall, unauthorised electrical fixtures, extra phone lines, a new shower with sliding door (instead of the tub that everyone else had), contraband antennas/satellite dishes affixed to the building, our own computer network, pirated cable, shelving and other storage connected directly to the building's support beams, and an uncaged animal (a cat).
Our RA never came into our room during the 3 years I lived in the campus apartments. Not once. If she had business with any of us, she would stand at the door and not look in, and she never inspected our room when somebody moved in or out. The catch was that whenever she needed something fixed in the building, she would call us before she'd call univeristy housing or buildings & grounds, and we'd fix it for her.
Here's the entirety of my wisdom learned about the human condition in college:
Girls was dishes after they use them. Guys wash dishes before they use them.

@AN OMG How can you live like that?!?
In my house at uni we have a rota for cleaning etc., but I routinely get (quietly) annoyed with my housemates for not doing it properly (like I'm putting away the "clean" stuff from the draining board and have to wash half of it again), or for leaving pans unwashed for several days - when you only have 3 saucepans and a frying pan between 4 of you, it gets annoying having to wash up someone else's mess every time you want to cook something So I get irritated by my housemates being inconsiderate about cleaning communal areas, especially the kitchen. (Oh, for a place of my own... )
On the other hand, my bedroom is nearly always a complete tip. Several weeks' newspapers neatly piled somewhere have usually spread out over the floor, and there's a large pile of 2l diet coke bottles where the bin used to be. But then, it's my room and nobody else has to live in it

True! So true!!
I've seen a couple of student flats exactly like that. The general consensus was when the ****roaches refused to live there they'd clean it. Or move out.

So not true. Last year I was living with a guy and two other girls, and out of the three of them, the guy had by far the firmest grip of the basic rules of hygieneOriginally posted by HighLordDave

I used to stand at the door barring the way for my drunken friends. "What the hell do you guys have there" I used to ask, and they would reply that they stole the girls boat fuel. We had a challenge to race them the next day. . There was no way they were going to drag that large canister over the carpet.
So you see even guys can be clean.
As for my room, well I only sleep in it. No point in cleaning it.
!
I dont know about you guys, but I do a lot more in my room than sleep in it ... So I try to keep relatively clean and clear.
About the dishes thing, *shudder* scary story about what happens when any sort of sauce or grease FREEZES onto the cooking gear. Do you have ANY idea how hard that is to get off? Ever since then, I've gotten into the habit of washing it immediately.

The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.
So I just stood and listened.
