As to the subject of 9/11 i wish people would stop bringing it up in a critisizing manner, it happened and the consequences are being dealt with, saying worse things happen in other countries might be true, but there is no reason to keep repeating it. This subject has been discussed to an almost ridiculous level, feel free to search through this forum to understand Gruntboy's feelings on this subject.

1. I will apologize, because it was never my intention to offend you. Sorry for that and may be you are right

2. You be more open minded and respect that I have another opinion (I dont need to earn that, democracy has earned that respect for me in the past 200 years)

3. Drop it, because we disagree in a way that can't be solved.

4. Be nice to eachother, that's at least one thing we have to do after 11-9 no matter what you think to it. So please son't call me a morron again, because you don't know me, although you pretend to know me after one post.

Not to Spam up Fable's topic, but

Why come give your opinion of the US in a topic about Holland?

To troll? To get one bash in?

Was not your last statement not an invite

As a protest against the diplomacy of the USA. They are going way to far with their protectionism and their battle against 'terrorism'.

Don't get me wrong, I think 11-9 was a terrible day, but the USA overreacted... Worse things happen in other countries

What purpose does this have with the topic? I can see where it will divert the attention away from Holland. Was this your point?

Perhaps our friend Rudar Dimble should start a thread entitled something like "America: The World's Self-Righteous Bully" or "Things That Bug Me About the USA, and I'm Not Talking About the Fact that MTV Doesn't Show Music Videos Anymore" and let him enumerate is problems with the United States. After all, he is entitled to his opinion and there are legitimate reasons to criticise the United States, but as our friend Weasel said, a thread about the Netherlands is not the place to be venting about the US's foreign policy.

I read just now over on CNN.com that the Dutch Army Chief of Staff just resigned over the controversy surrounding the 1995 massacre in Srebrenica.

The NIOD report, which triggered this whole thing, holds some interesting implications:

First, at what point was the Dutch Army responsible for the massacre, if at all (the report says they took responsibility, not the blame)? At what point was the UN responsible? Is Radko Mladic the only bad guy here?

If indeed someone other than Mladic is responsible, what liability do they hold in terms of reparations, restitution or as possible war criminals?

What kind of precedent does this set for future UN peacekeeping missions?

Will this make other countries gunshy about sending soldiers abroad for fear of being held liable for incidents which occur in their "zone of control"?

Will this further complicate broad and vague UN mandates by making field commanders second guess their own decisions for fear of being held responsible not only for their actions, but their inactions?

At this point IMHO

Clipping from CNN..."The troops should have supervised the evacuation themselves, but the Dutch soldiers were hindered by an inadequate mandate from the United Nations and by their own government, and had been sent on an impossible mission, the report said. Humanitarian motivation and political ambitions drove the Netherlands to undertake an ill-conceived and virtually impossible peace mission,"
