In the Windspear Hills - the greater wolfweres drove my solo cleric/mage insane. They regenerated so fast that even with all my summoned friends I could not kill them. After 5 reloads I sanctuaried past them. I also heard that this may have been a bug...if not these creatures regenerate way to fast.

Please don't laugh, my hardest fight used to be with Menbles Pebblecrusher in the Waukeen Promenade inn. I just got out of the Irenicus Dungeon then and wandered into the fight by mistake. Had to come back and reload a few times before I got it right :(

With that experience behind, me, I have to say the hardest fight for me would be Firkraag without traps and on solo, mano o mano.

oh yes, pebblecrusher in waukeens promenade, probably the hardest battle for me, i had no strategy and no experience, took my a long time to beat that one. i also had a hard time with the slave owners at the very beginning, i was still getting a feel for the game. i never really had all that much trouble with firkaag, probably because i never do it early in the game. most annoying frustrating thing that ever happened was raising korgan one time so he had one hit point then going to the temple in the slums where he promptly recieved 1 damage from habib.

LOL re Habib. :)

I got that too when I went to the temple to raise Mr Haer ("My sword skills are better than Drizzt's!) Dalis. Twice in a row.

Now, I make it a point to kill that no-good opportunistic SOB whenever I have the chance. :)

whne i was running pure sorc, fairly high level, with good pary behind me, I did every fihgt by sending in summons, and the windspear werewolves chewed up 20!!!! skelly warriors and spit them out, finally hasted them, they did the job...firkraag I installed balderdash patch, since i was cloudkilling him every time, and he would death spell my summons...finally got him via trickery and carpet bombing...projected images carpeted his entier lair with cloudkills, ring of gaxx made me immune so I let the dragon chase the image around until he died...
They call me Darth...

Whats-His-Face the Hatchet man, and his adventurers in the Temple District Sewers were hard, but the Thrall mages in the Planar Prison were absolutely ridiculous. Kangaxx and Firkragg have been strategized to death before you even fight 'em...The minf flayers in the underdark were hard too without the greenstone necklace...

Well, one of the toughest fights was with Kangaxx without a +4 weapon :D . In the end, it all depends on levels, equipment and a balanced party. I found the Twisted Rune too hard, so I did Spellhold and the Underdark first and then it was just a breeze. Firkraag remained difficult, while I found the Shadow Dragon in the Temple Ruins to be relatively easy to defeat (luck?)...

Mencar Pebblecrusher is no joke. He beat me to a pulp several times the first time I played through SoA. I got smart though - laid some traps with yoshimo, cast a fireball and a cloudkill (with wand). Great feeling :) .

Whew! I am not alone! I thought I was a weakling when I got crushed by his group!

Cheers.

Ha, besides that early experience the hardest battle would be......shanglar in my most recent run through SoA with a fighter/mage. I was set on finishing the battle early, my party was only lvl 11 or12. Anyhow, it took me about 10-12 reloads. I find that when you reload so many times, you feel like you really lost the battle. I mean what does it say about your party? You win once out of every 10 tries? :( .

I've found that small hallway to be your greatest advantage. Position your party on the other side, have someone with boots of speed or hasted walk forth to open the door and talk to Samia. As soon as the ennemies spawn in you deal out a few hits and runs back to the party while your mages cast confusion, cloudkill and web til there be nothing left. End of story.

I also heard that this may have been a bug...if not these creatures regenerate way to fast.

I remember from my old days of PnP that Greater Wolfweres did
regenerate the ENTIRE health at the end of each round, so you had to do all the damage within a single round.
I don't know if they are implemented this way, but I usually strike
as fast as I can, and they die.... :D

as for my hardest battle... well, I was soloing a kensai dualled to mage (only for the first stages of the game, before regaining Imoen.. ;) ), and had to clear Bodhi's lair with a lonely, single/class, 8th level mage!!!!!!
Man, that WAS hard.... consider that I didn't rest, as I consider a little cheesy doing it in a dungeon....
With the same char I also did the slaver compound, very hard
too, but...

I should of mentioned that I was soloing a sorc. :o

It was more the element of surprise then anything else. Plus the hallway meant that an ill targeted lightning bolt could do horrible damage to everyone in sight.

I tried to rebound it off the walls but instead it came back again, and again.
