High level :D

Post by Mr.Waesel »

For 2nd edition there was a tome (or module or something) for super-high-level characters. Will there be something like it 3e? Or Do I have to stop playing whe i reach lvl 20, and startall over again?

The Epic Level Handbook will be coming out in May I believe. It contains infromation about characters reaching 20+ levels (rules up to level 40 I believe).

The official rules stop at level 20 I believe. After that, they aren't official anymore. At least not for playable characters.

Plus, I assume reaching level 20 would be quite the exception, unless you've got a DM who likes to make everything easy and hands out loads of XP.

Or just lets you use the same characters for a long time. And that book I mentioned is official, made by WotC and everything.

Well, perhaps I should have been clearer. More than likely your character will DIE before level 20. As you reach higher levels, you gain more enemies, and more enemies generally equates to a shorter life-span. Get my drift? So, more often than not, I would bet characters don't live to level 20. They either retire, or get dead. :)

Rather grim look on things don't you think?

I had a drow NE Thief/Mage that got up to level 17/15.
I went through a whole Deck of Many Things, which was a miracle, but I did it. I kept getting all of the cards in the right order....I was amazed!

But I believe that one can keep a character alive until higher levels. I don't see any reason that they can't. I don't believe that my DM was easy on us. Hell, he used to make up things off the top of his head, making planning for encounters fairly hard.
And he wasn't generous with the magical items either.
Most of the ones I had weren't permanent, potions and such.....but I had a great time playing that character.
