ok, im a HUGE MASSIVE fan of Baldurs Gate 1, Baldurs gate 2 and Torment.
but, all the reviews of IWD tell me that its more of a hack and slash rather then a complex game like bg or torment.
so wat i wana know, is ID really worth playin? sounds like a stupid question but id like to know,
does it have an intricate storyline and dialogue?
does it involve a bit of puzzle solving or mind involving elements?
does it have cool magical weapons and spells?
does it have cool NPCs and characters?
does it have well thought of quests?
im not much of a hack and slash fan, i HATE diablo so i wana know, will i like IWD?
plz, any help would be appreciated. dont be biased, think of the games i like such as Bg and wat i hate such as diablo and tell me, should i fork out the money?
is IWD really good?!
ME, i love the game, IWD not ID, LOL
First if all it does NOT have npc's in the game.
You make the whole party, from 1 to 6 players.
No it's not BG but it's not Diablo either.
Storyline is good.
Graphics are great.
Music is great.
But above all it dependes on how YOU see it.
As a big adventure or just a hack&slash.
What i think, ... , it's worth it's money, it's a very good game,
don't forget to add on, How(heart of winter) and TotL(trial of LureMaster). HoW you buy that, TotL you download that.
If you are a prg play, you WILL at least like it.

I personally love IWD+HOW+ToTL...is was my first CRPG game...am in the midst of playing it again and well as starting Torment for the first time.
I tried Baldurs Gate...but got kind of bored from all the walking around and open spaces. One of these days maybe I'll finish it.
I agree with Onyx, the game is wonderful and IWD is also very linear...so if you don't like that kind of gaming aspect you might not enjoy IWD as much and it sounds like IWD II will be just about the same only with 3E rules, new baddies and classes.
I thought the game was well balanced out between the hack & slash, dungeon crawling, storyline, quests, interesting baddies and if you get ToTL the riddles to solve.
By adding HOW you also get to play on the Heart of Fury option which makes everything just a tad bit harder to deal with.
Having the option of creating your own characters gives you a wider variety of playability you don't have to create 6 you can do just 4 or even 1 if you balance the classes out just right.
So if you like the challenge, go for it.

There is only one satisfying way to boot a computer.
First I'm gonna answer all of your questions: good storyline, one puzzle, tons of magical weapons, no joinable NPC's, and quests are almost 100% linear.... You were told right when you were told it was more of a hack and slash than a roleplay basically because there almost is no roleplaying required. Also, even though there is a reputation, they don't tell you what it is.... it's not on your character record sheet. But I have heard of losing rep from killing inocents, and you can get it back at temples. There are only a few side quests I can remember. There are a lot of "Random Drop" items(when you kill a guy there are a number of items that it could be. Also this is a game where Bards are a little better off. They get instruments! I'd say try a demo or try to find a cheap used version.
