I'm currently looking for the half of the rod that's in the rift dungeon place.. I just got past the riddle bridge (after answering wrong a couple times.. ow ) and now there's a gauth plus many shadows that attack me. My party consists of:
Me (cleric/mage)
Minsc
Jan
Jaheira
Keldorn
Another little question..how do you guys deal with level drain? It's annoying to always rest after a fight so I can memorize "Lesser restoration" just to cure one or two people.. negative plane protection just doesn't last long enough for me either.

Join with the shadow thieves. Aran Linvail gives you the Amulet of Power, which gives negative plane protection while worn. Give this to one character to soak up the attacks from level draining creatures.

One other piece of equipment that works is the upgraded mace of disruption +2.

After the bridge continue on to the temple go inside and get the first part of the rift device. Then you need to go to the lower reached to get the next piece of the rift device. Good luck
Heh, this is the first quest I've taken in Chapter 2 I just defeated the Manifestation (took me a long time to figure that one out..) and I got the device. I'm on my way right now to get the other half of it.
