Need help to a simple question

Hi all, just a quick question- can I pick my spells for a level 5 charactor theres been some disagreement and i need someone to clear it up?

Is i just soreress's that dont get to pick ?

Bards know and cast spells exactly like sorcerers (except they always have to have verbal components). When a bard level is gained you gain knowledge of more spells according to the bards spells known table in the player's handbook. Your charisma determines how powerful those spells are and how many times you can cast them (DCs and bonus spells respectively).
