ToB or not?

Post by Esfafadro »

I recently bought BGII including ToB. I haven't played the original BG before so I'm a rather new to this. What I wounder is if it is recomended to install ToB from the beginning or should I wait until SoA is finished?
Any advantage or drawback?

En Taro Adun.

If I were you, I would start from the start, if you know of I mean.

1. A lot of extra stuff, just waiting for some adventures.
2. New monsters. Just a little more fun.

But actually, it's very boring anyway to start from the beginning.

So, you suggest that I finish the last chapter of SoA and then continue with ToB.
Any patches that should be installed before I start playing SoA?

No, I mean. Install ToB, and then start a new adventure from the beginning. It's maybe boring that way, but recieve new items and met new monster + NPC's is more fun.

Here's my recommended installation:
- BGII: SoA
- BGII: ToB
- ToB Official Patch
- Baldurdash ToB Bugfix Pack - although the site does not seems to be running at the moment.

After all of this, start a new game in SoA - you'll automatically move on to ToB once you have finish SoA.

@Feh'Nicia: Are you saying that the ToB aso affects the areas in SoA??
New quests?

@Sabre: I've heard about a add-on package that affects a store in SoA. More magic items and so forth. Is that package included in your list?

@Esfafadro
Tob has some effect on soa areas, the drow in the underdark can see invisible, you can delete spells from spellbook, the xp cap is set to 8m, and there's a certain tob area where you can go before finishing soa.

the addon package that affects a store in soa is the bonus merchants addon that can be downloaded from the gamebanshee site http://www.gamebanshee.com/downloads/bonusmerchants.zip

If you want a challenge I would also recommend the the improved AI addons.

wtf what?!?
i have ToB for about 2 months installed, and NEVER played it! just SoA, with different parties, and a bit of that certain area.
the only thing that becomes a bit boring doing again and again is chapter 1, its really always the same.
ok, u may see it different, but i cannot agree at all.

Yeah I dont see how you can say the game which is responsible for the sequel in the first place is "boring" =/
