How do I rest in the first town so I can recover mana? I have been at that Trading Post but cant find a rest option and pressing T gets me a message sayings its illegal to rest there and I need to find a bed :(

As far as I can tell, you cannot rest in the first town tavern. They say you can, but there is no option. You can in Pelegaid and Balmora, just to name two, and you can sleep out in the wild.

There's a bedroll

There's a bedroll in the Customs House, you can 'activate' that and rest all you like in the first town :)

Just head back toward where you picked that dagger up on the table in the customs house and go down the stairs to the right. In that room (with the kegs) is a bedroll.

There is also a hemlock in one of the sheds behind the inn....

This will do nicely if you need to rest :D

Hemlock? LOL, I hope you meant hammock, 'cause hemlock would help you sleep for a good long time!

Hemlock is a poison in RL.

Did you check upstairs in the main store to see if they'll let you sleep, there?

is hemlock a herb of somesort?... if so what kind of potions could i make out of it. A destructive potion possibly?
