Containers - where do I store this stuff?

Post by smass »

Hi all, I have been playing a thief type character and have pilfered a ton of loot. I have some valuable alchemist gear that I stole - it is clogging up my inventory and no one in the three towns I have visited will buy it from me. I probably need to go to a big town like Vivec to sell the suff - but in the meantime where can I safely store the loot - do I have to use a container a-la Baldurs - or can I just leave it someplace and go get it later?

You could kill someone and use their house to store the stuff.

I am using a cave as my current home. It has a chest though. The stuff I put in the chest stays if I log off or whatever. I am looking for stuff to furnish my cave at the moment. I'll let ya know if it stays put.

that's very cool... the cave idea. I take it u're using the place in the first dungeon where you have to swim to. How much stuff will fit in that chest?

I have heard that you can just leave stuff on the ground, but I have been stashing stuff in people's houses. If you take your own stuff out of someone's basket and they see you though they will call the guard so it is not ideal unless you sneak well. Sometimes people have some chest upstairs or downstairs though that is out of sight, so you can use that.

One person i read used the chests in a fighter's guild bunk room.

I am considering knocking off a merchant in a major town and using their shop though. I would have to go payoff the thieve's guild to get my bounty "taken care of" but when I knocked off one of the merchants in Hla Oad, the bounty was only 40 gold or something.

I have my eye on the pawnbroker in Balmora - we dont get along anyway :D

I've been keeping my eye on the Lighthouse in the first town. I think I'll just summon up my trusty dagger and cap her a**. She seems to have alot of containers in there for storage and even a locked chest :D

I already knocked off the Argonian in the hut with the lake view. :D His improper speech just bothered me and I don't have respect for commoners anyways :p
I already fought the woman in the tower and it wasn't hard to off her but she may be important in the future cause when you ask people for services in town they point out the inn and the tower. Gees, I HATE decisions. :p Well, at least the hut I have now has a bed I can use :D

I think I'll just stick with the lakeview hut for now. I HAD to kill him cause I liked his hut location and all Argonians must DIE with their ugly appearance and their ignorant speech.

OOC: I'm just roleplaying my character so no one take offence to the Argonian thing I said ;)

doesn't matter where you leave it. I leave stuff in the mage guilds on the floor or anywhere else I know I frequent a lot. It doesn't disappear.

Like I posted before, I ended up taking the pawnbrokers shop in Balmara. I didn't get along with that guy, and the shop is nice - near three other shops. There's lots of containers in there too, and I'm starting to decorate it a little. Unfortunately there is no bed, but it is near the fighter's and mage guilds so I go sleep there.

i paid the thieve's guild 20 gold to take care of the bounty on my head.

BTW I picked up a book to go sell, and I started reading it - it was 40 pages long!!!! (apologies to Fable for excess exclamation point usage but Damn! That's Deep (TM)!!!!

Yea, that shop is filled with GREAT stuff and it's only 40 bounty points you get for killing her. That's MUCH better than the 4004 bp's I got from the room right when you come in town.

BTW, is there a certain price GM's of guilds charge you to clear u're record or is it like the same or a little more that the total bp's you have?

Legal way to get a home.

I killed the smuglers in the cave outside the first town and took that over.
It has barrels and crates in the lower section plus you can rest there safely.
I usualy go in the slave pen and close the door first.
I am not playing a thief but a good guy so no killing shop keepers for me :)

:o You can leave the items anywhere, they will still be there when you return. Even the dead bodies do not fade away or anyting.

What is everyone's opinion on the dead bodies? I personally am anal about disposing of them. It is confusing to see the body in the distance and think it's a new target. Even when a person has loot I dont want I dispose of the body, then stash the loot in a crate or chest - I cant stand to have crap cluttering up the landscape.

Hey by the way has anyone noticed how big the save games are? :D

Remember, dungeons restock after a time. Can't say what that does to the chests, but...

I dispose of every body after I kill them. I do this in towns so the guards won't see them and report the crime if I got around the reporting the first time. :D

Another ok place to hole up for a little while is the two rooms off the Arena Canton Storage area. The one on the left even has a bedroll and several containers. Not much of a view. Thinking of going to Balmora and finding a nice house where I'll motivate the seller a little...

May not be the fanciest digs in town, but even after three stronholds, I still prefer to place mark in front of Creeper, and off load all my loot there in his upstairs room..that way it is right there when eer I want to use it, sell it, or barter with it, and the mages guild is just down the street, to get me where ever I am going to... :p

NPC's in caves and other dwellings do not resurrect, but animals, daedra, undead, etc. do. If you set up in a cave that has rats or nix hounds, they will be back every 3 days; the NPC's you killed in there will never return.

If you empty a container and use it to store stuff, you could lose said stuff IF THE CONTAINER RESTOCKS. As far as I know, the restocking is random. My previous go-round, I stored stuff in all kinds of containers near Caius' and lost nothing. This time I don't bother; I just sell everthing but certain special items to Creeper. If you really want to use crates and chests, leave the original stuff in there. My best educated guess is that the container will not regenerate if the original stuff has never been removed.
