typos in the manual

Post by hwttdz »

1) Is there anywhere I can find a list of typos in the manual because I'm trying to work something out and don't know if the manual is right?

2) The standard thief gets 20% per level?

3) What is the difference between hide in shadows and move silently to the game? when does it use one when the other? is one useless?

Long explanation:
The reason I'm asking is that I want to make a char to take through everything. I want a sort of thief/fighter and the only thief skills that are important to me are the stealth ones (hide in shadows and move silently, while we're at it can someone explain what the difference between the two is and when the game uses each) and find traps. Kind of like a ranger with find traps replacing priest spells and a little backstab. I want to use a human dual because the fighter will level better and after that I don't want any thief skills. Does someone know the point distribution? I know the standard starting percentages in each and the bonus for 18 dex. It ends up I need 90 in traps and 80 in the others (to get 100) but I think I may sacrafice some of them. Any input on the idea as a whole is welcome.

1) Can you make a multi-player party in BG I the same way as in BG II? Then play through with more than one character.

2) If so what about a ranger, specializing as an archer with gnolls as racial enemy for the gnoll stronghold?

Thanks for any help I'm looking forward to playing again, I haven't in years.

Yes, it is exactly the same. However you lose out the chance to do a few areas.

I don't think it is possible to specialise as an Archer specifically, you owuld have to chose a ranger or fighter and specialise in Bows.

@Earlier questions

1) Not to my knowledge

2) I think so, that or 25%

3) Hide in the shadows is the equivalent of sneaking, move silently is not the same thing, i am not sure what move silently actually refers to.

hide in shadows percentage determines if you can well hide in shadows in the first place... AFAIK the move silently determines whether you are able to remain hidden while walking around...

so hide in shadows->if you can make the char "invisible"
move silently->if you are able to remain hidden without the need to hide again... unless you attack or someone casts some detect invis. type spell

I don't think you miss out on any areas as long as you do not have a complete party. If you have no room you cannot do npc quests.

No one can verify 20% or 25% for thieves.

I meant to take a ranger then specialize in bows not to be confused with the BG:II archer kit.

I have solved most of my own problems, because I installed it yay!

theives get 20% a level

there is only stealth in bg I not the both hide in shadows and move silently

I tried making a multiplayer game but I don't think it agrees with my operating system, windows me. I haven't checked patches yet. I know thats the first thing I should do. Don't yell at me.

Early in the game, the building where the creatures are spawned, the Gatewarden gives you the task. You can not do this when in Multiplayer. I seem to recall there was another one or two :o

@httdz, If you have Trials of the Sword Coast it might not be necessary to look for any patches. The Multiplayer was apparently quite buggy on BG1, although i never experienced any problems. You might want to check what protocol you are playing the game under (ergo IPX, TCP/IP)
