Covers, why?
i quite liked the live (and quite drunk) Travis cover of 'Hit me baby one more time'. it's probably the best thing travis have done, cos it's actually happy - albeit in a p*ssed-as-a-newt kinda way ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)

I am in complete agreement, that song was appaling, much like the rest of their careerOriginally posted by C Elegans
I absolutely hated the British girlband All Saints. And I hated them even more when they made a lousy and flat cover of the 70's disco classic "Lady marmalade". Yuck.
@Rob, i agree, it was much better than the actual Spears version, plus Franny actually gave it some heart
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

@Sleepy - Little Earthquakes is a great album
If we are talking covers we like, I would opt for Garage Inc especially Metallica's covers of Turn The Page, Stone Cold Sober and Whiskey In The Jar
One of the many occasions I saw them live they were supported by Danzig, and Glen Danzig stepped up to sing lead vocal for Metallica's cover of the Misfits' Green Hell! Fantastic!![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/)

That reminds me of another cover I liked - Metallica once took the opportunity in the US MTV awards show (broadcasted live all over the world), and played a cover of Anti-Nowhere league's "So what". Anti-Nowhere league was a British punk/new wave band, and the lyrics of "So what" certainly gave the producers grey hair since it couldn't be beep outposted by Yshania

@Ysh I have several Tori Amos albums, but that one is bad... I haven't even listened to it all, I couldn't face it
@Sleep I didn't watch Pop Idol, but as I understand it, they had to prove they could sing in various different styles each week, so all they proved was that they were good at emulating other people's styles.
@Craig so, you're the reason Steps split, are you?
@CE yeah, All Saints' cover of Under the Bridge was pretty dire as well...
@Robnark because they were taking the piss rather than taking themselves far too seriously, that cover of Britney is probably among my favourite Travis tracks
Candidate for best cover: Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower
And his Star Spangled Banner
On the other hand, the Corrs version of Hendrix's Little Wing is just wrong. Hmmm... the Lemonheads version of Mrs Robinson isn't bad.

it was a shame when they split. when they're all in one place they make a better target

If Travis' name is not mentioned ever again in this thread, I will try and remain calm. If those shameful excuses for humans are discussed again though I will not be accountable for my sins.i quite liked the live (and quite drunk) Travis cover of 'Hit me baby one more time'. it's probably the best thing travis have done
Wait, I can't believe noone thought of this already. The most foul, pathetic, unnuterably, indescribably obnoxiously hatred-inducing, hateful, dispicable, loathsome widgett of grotesquely heinous pseudo-music ever created by man or beast:
Gerry Haliwell's 'It's Raining Men'

It's impressive really, because you wouldn't have thought that it was possible to remake that sound and make it so much worse... of course it would help if it was actually within her vocal range

that was while she was in the spice girls. When she left they took the computer chip which had been controlling her brain out, and since then her vocals have ranged from Flat C to Slightly Breathy and Marginally More Manly-Sounding Flat C.it ranges from ear-splitting scream to irritating giggle
Love and Hope and Sex and Dreams are Still Surviving on the Street
actually, the slightly more manly sounding flat C is an entirely studio made note cunningly edited into her *ahem* "singing". they were going to try edit her voice, but it was impossible to improve upon it - as the old proverb says, 'you can't polish a turd'
