hey Ned ;)

the bow in Vivec is very easy to get, it's at the smith's shop right across from the mage guild, you can teleport into the mage guild and just walk across the way there.

However, I still use my crappy chitin short bow a lot, because I checked - my character gets like 3 or 4 percent towards marksman skill increase for each successful hit with a bow. Killing everything I can hit with 1 shot will actually increase my skill more slowly than taking a couple shots, so when I go crab hunting, I use the short bow.

Questions regarding Enchanting Bow & Arrows

First off do i need Mysticism to get Soul Gems with souls in them or can i find/buy those?

Secondly, in order to make the affects do you enchant the bow, the arrow (singular), the arrows (plural), or any of those?

Thanks ahead of time.

well, you're welcome, but I don't know how much help this will be:

you can find soul gems uncharged mostly, buy some charged. To charge them you cast soul trap on a creature then kill it within the time limit of the spell.

Enchanting the bow would probably be the way to go, but I can't really think of what enchantments would be good on a bow, maybe fortify markmanship or agility. You can't just give a bow a "+3" or whatever, but those would have the same effect roughly.

[edited this part:]
Enchanting an arrow - i don't think anyone has found a way to enchant a bunch of arrows, I just tried to enchant arrows and couldn't even get one arrow to come up in the enchant interface. I had silver arrows in my inventory, but they did not appear in they selectable items. I've found kind of a lot of enchanted arrows (all from skeleton archers so far) and maybe you can buy them somewhere too, but enchanting them yourself looks like a no go.

I haven't tried myself but can you enchant the bow to do extra elemental damage itself? Seem like it wouldn't fit but has anyone tried? That reminds me of the old D&D cartoon where the guy shot fire arrows. That would be cool if you could. Anyways, please enchanters save before you try but give it a shot then post u're results please :)

I was thinking about this too, but here's the thing:

You could enchant a bow to shoot fireballs or whatever, but to use it you would have to equip it like a spell, i.e. when you equipped it I don't think you would see the bow, I think you would just see your hands. And using it wouldn't increase marksmanship or really require marksmanship at all. You might as well just make a sword or a ring that fires fireballs.

If you want to stack damage, it has to be on the arrow ( i think). That's the way the enchanted arrows I've found work. They have a cast when strikes 3-7 fire, or a cast when strikes dispel, or whatever, and charges and recharging just like any other enchanted item.

I also went on a big tomb raiding expedition. A bunch of the tombs had skeleton archers (I think that's a 'level 4' kind of monster) and I picked up about 250 magical arrows off of em. The arrows have various effects along the lines of 2-7 extra fire, frost, poison etc damage depending on the type. Very Nice.

Nah, the skeleton archers may just aswell be level 1 monsters,
I stumbled into that first tomb on the way to the egg mines,
had a Nord Knight with all my skills in combat mostly..Was a skeleton archer that protected the inner room (where the loot is I suppose), who kept tearing me to shreds, could never advance close enough to get a blow at him. I sucked at destruction too so none of my bought spells actually worked. It pissed me off so badly (after reloading a dozen times, I couldn't run from him either) I was totally (sucked. -censoring ed)..had saved too close to the door where he was, and already opened it), that I stopped playing for 3 days. Same thing with the mage on the dwemer bridge, his conjured monster came in the way and killed me all the time..I then abandoned the whole Fighter thing.
Then restarted with my archer. 3 days later when I could touch the game again.
