sneak?

Post by Ishaar »

Me and my new char again :)

I was wondering what's the fuzz with sneak and security skills if your a caster?

If Im not mistaken those could be easly replaced by a good ol'illusion spell and a fancy open doors one right?

Or am I missing something? Cause my assassin/mage tend to come more and more a 'simple' warrior/mage :)

Thanks for your input

edited: also I have rally a hard time lvling up my sneak skill, Im usting pretty often and I never got a single point into it...

Well, you can do alot of thief talents as a mage just not as good.
Invisibility was intended for passing people/places with ease but once you do any kind of action you appear again making it impossible to steal successfully. Also open is nice and way overpowered early in the game but I'm guessing later in the game it fazes out a little unless you pay I'm guessing ALOT of gold to make a kickbutt open spell.

Sneaking seems to me to be a VERY hard skill to increase though and I'm starting with it as a minor. Security is much easier to raise though. I raised it 2 times just by breaking into houses and chests in Balmora. I think I may remove both of those skills from my majors/minors cause although it made sense to have them I could use others more

Sneak is simple to raise

To raise sneak, find somewhere with a single static npc, stand just out of their immediate line of sight, so that you have a chance of sneaking. Hold down your sneak button, if the sneak icon flashes on and off regularly, that's a perfect spot. If it stays on or stays off, then move around until it flashes.

I did this at about 35 sneak, and gained very fast just stood in one place with the button pressed down. If you like, you could fix the key down and go for your lunch or whatever.

As for using invis, you cannot (easily if at all) pickpocket from invis, as you are immediatly revealed.

ummm I never use sneak or security except for needed points against stat bonus. I always use invis and open spells. I didn't understand why you thought you couldn't steal with invis just because you appear when you do it. it works just like sneak in that there is always the chance you will be seen but nethertheless it does work. I have a 5 sec invis that I cast and I have my target on the item I want at same time. its just left clik, make sure cast didn't fail and spacebar. wham, bam, thank you mamn. if I get caught I can either pay the fine, go to jail, fight my way out or reload :) but sneak fails also so there is no difference.

Are you talking about stealing an item from a chest/table etc or pickpocketing? I've tried countless times to pickpocket from invis and I get caught all the time, but am fine using sneak.
