be more specific, what is the exact error you get and in what stage of the installation? - /can't start the installation/error while installing/the game installed normally but works incorrectly or doesn't work at all/

well it begins to install but while its installing it says files cant be found or something and when it gets to about 90% it just closes and thats about it. It worked on my old computer so i know the cds arent to scratched. This computers specs are.... 1.6GHZ Pentium 4, 256 DDR Ram, 40 GB harddrive, and a 40x cd drive. So i know its not the computer must be windows xp. Oh i have a SIS 650 32MB video card and a SIS 7012sound card. Oh and when the game auto runs and the screen with install and exit and stuff if i click install there it freezes. The only way ive been able to get it to start installing is by manually clicking the setup file.

That's very weird.
I run Baldur's Gate under both XP-home edition as well as the profesional one.
And it installed fine.

Can you reinstall on you're old PC, so you can check if it's not a CD-ROM problem?
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Check here for information on solving your installation problem. In particular, check the sections on Windows XP and Installation problems. While this thread pertains to BG2, much of it is also helpful for BG1.

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.
