Should I get this game?

Post by Nightmare »

Should I buy this game? Is it a pay per month game? What sort of story/combat/engine/gameplay style does it use?

Hi Gaxx,
Morrowind is a first person, single player game(no multiplayertherefore no monthly fee). It was released with a developers kit so people are already making plugins, which can be downloaded and run. Combat is realtime with configurable hotkeys for spells and inventory items. The game is very open ended and nonlinear, you can do pretty much anything you want from customizing characters, to following the main story line or completely ignoring it in favor of exploring the landscape. It doesn't have much npc interaction besides running errands for people. Very fun game, although you'll need a decent system to run it.

But watch: within the next year, a lot of people are going to upgrade simply because prices for new CPUs are so inexpensive these days. The only real expense is for those new high-end video cards, and I would expect those to drop as still-newer models appear. :)

well the GeForce 5's are coming out this fall, its already been announced, and i like it that the game runs like it does, means i will actually see an improvment when i upgrade my system this summer.

but this game is going to be around for awhile, so its definately worth getting.

Yeah I agree- Gaxx you have to get it!

And high end video cards are not as expensive as they used to be. (nor or processors, memory, etc, but that's a different story)

I've "only" got a Radeon 7200, but with the new drivers that came out last week (developed, btw, in cooperation with Bethesda Softworks), I get an excellent framerate.

There are controls that let you turn off some video features, however, in case things seem sluggish. In any case, I would rate this the best CRPG since BG2/SoA.

Villain, you know what I think the real problem is is that it doesn't run all that much better on a real high-line machine than a normal machine, which is why some people with 2 ghz/gf4ti4600 rigs are p.o.'d

Or something, could be wrong.

Having that extra memory really does help.
