Will Nalia never improve her burglar abilities?
I am a newbie .. please bear with me if this sounds illiterate.

No she won't since she is a dual class (contrary to a multiclass). Her first class is inactive and she only advances as a Mage. Only humans can dualclass. The other races can multiclass, though, which means they progress in two or three classes at the same time, dividing the XPs evenly between the classes.

You will find rings and other items that improves thief skills. Nalia unfortunately makes for a pretty bad thief but she will do for SoA if you use items and spells.

Lighten up, @Aranan. English may not be Dolonjha's first language. More to the point, he effectively communicated the point he wished to ask. I've seen quite a few people here who were born and raised in English-speaking nations who couldn't manage that much in a language they'd known all their lives.

@Dolonjha, welcome to the boards. You can increase Nalia's thieving abilities, but that involves the use of a editing tool to change the character. There are quite a few experts who can tell you how to go about doing that, if you want. :)

Personally, though, I'd suggest hanging around the Government district. There's a humorous gnome selling turnips in the eastern half, and if you befriend him--let's just say, you'll never regret it. ;)

There is a little slider bar under your character portrait in SK. Click on the arrows or scroll to select any party member. There is also the creature browser if you wanted to do it that way for some reason.

I agree the turnip seller is a fun guy to have around.

But, seriously, are you saying that you can use ShadowKeeper (or some similar tool) to increase Nalia's thieving stats? I've never been able to hack anyone except my own character creations in SK - except for pumping NPCs up with the tomes from BG1 through a variety of back door methods. Of course, once you've got the gnome who needs Nalia?
You can use Shadowkeeper to change her class. :)

Does this mean you can CTRL-Q a non NPC into your party and give them a portrait, etc?

Caution here. I tried once to CTRL-Q a character who I just
saved in a quest... thought it would be fitting... then used SK to change
to bard at level ONE (as bards are the most "No_Class_at_All" of all
classes... I have to agree with User here!! :D )

But it was a mess, nothing really worked, at last I created one in
MP then imported...

@fable and dolonjha:
Sorry if I offended, it wasn't my intent. I just found it somewhat amusing since I've never heard that term applied to BG, and once to a game of PnP DND. One of my friends insisted on calling the thief in our party a burglar, and it started a minor conflict... I guess I was laughing at an inside joke that nobody else knew of. Oopsie

About Nalia.. if you are looking for a thief, I really suggest you use either Jan or Imoen. Nalia isn't doing too well in my game right now but I don't feel like changing her out with Jan (I'm almost out of chapter 3 and very close to dualing my kensief). She's missed at least three traps and couldn't unlock two chests (I had to drink strength potions with Korgan who is using the 19 strength belt to break open the chests)..

Two options for you. Either you could use ShadowKeeper to give her a few more thief levels (I once made her a Thief(6)/Mage, and distributed her thief skills so she had 100 % in Open Locks and Find Traps). Or you could start memorizing a few Knock spells - she is a Mage after all. And make sure to buy all Potion of Master Thievery as well and have her drink one before every dungeon.

On a side note, the Assassin(10)/Mage is very nice. You get a decent x 4 multiplier, can obtain 100 % in both Hide in Shadow and Move Silently, get faster working poison, and three Poison Weapon per day.A bit unsure if Nalia fits RPG-wise, though.

On the subject of using SK to improve the lack of decent thieves (and its only cheating a tiny bit)...Minsc! Up his dex by a little bit and he's ready to dual class. He even has dialogue for stealth from his ranger ability...but he is strangely silent whenever he pickpockets or sets a trap.

Creating an entirely new class can't be considered cheating a tiny bit.

@ Astafas; well I only raised his dex by 1 point (or maybe 2 hehe) and voila,he's ready to dual so technically I did only cheat a 'little' bit. Its not like I created a hivemother/assasin/deathbringer/jedi/pirate like a certain other personage :)

Anyway it suited the balance of the party I wanted to create at the time.

What are you talking about? The Ranger/Thief is not a legitimate class in 2nd edition.

@Astafas; what am I talking about?? Actually you're right. I (ahem) Sk'd Minsc into a berserker first then dualed him to a thief. I guess there's a little Userunfriendly in all of us... :D
