One thing I'll say about my year here at SYM, is that I have learned to watch what I say - even when I am joking. Things that seem funny to me may not be phrased in such a way to seem funny to other people. I have been known to stick my foot in my mouth while trying to make a joke. While I may not now be a 'veteran' of on-line interactions, I am at least no 'newbie'.Originally posted by C Elegans
You were? I don't remember that - for what?

I really can't imagine you of all people joking in a way that might be interpreted as hurting or insulting to somebody else. A forum like this though is generally difficult to joke in IMO since the written form allows more variation in interpretation and thus more easily lends itself to misunderstandings (especially for all us who don't have English as our 1st language - it is often said that joking is the most difficult part of mastering another language).Originally posted by Gwalchmai

You understand the crux of the problem exactly. To this day, there are people in El Salvador who are scratching their head and trying to figure out what I was trying to tell them....Originally posted by C Elegans

One time, though, I managed to flame Foul without intending, all in the name of trying to make a lame joke. It was the first time I ever spoke to him, and I have avoided him ever since out of sheer mortification!
BTW, thanks for the vote of confidence.
