frickin' AC

Post by Robnark »

i've just got this (utterly fabulous) game to give me something to do over exam leave, and it's probably the best £5 i ever spent, but the trouble is i'm finding combat really hard - i kept it on standard difficulty, but i'm having to do *every* quest before doing a difficult fight just to get some levels.

now, i've just beaten whatsherface the hag, and turned up in that wierd desert city place, but i've only found one place that sold armour so far, and that was for that tiefling annah. so, my NO's AC has gone down to 5, and only then after giving him the best kit and tattoos i could beg, borrow or steal. even ignus has a better base AC than my character (who's a fighter with dex17)

is there something i'm doing wrong? is thee somebody i should talk to? is there a reason i get my immortal backside kicked by all and sundry?

if not, i'll jusyt have to resort to playing with 'cube hero' and pi$$ing off morte :D

One must talk to Fell in the Region that one gets Ingus (it has been a while :o ) he should be in the house furthest rightm Fells Tatoo parlour :) He will supply you with Tattoos to put on your person which will decrease your AC. You can also find an arm which will gain your more tatoos once you have taken it to Fell. As you travel through the game you will obtain more and more tatoos, make sure you check in on Fell as often as possible :)
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

IIRC, the only itens that can lower your "base" AC (and act as some kind of armour) are those "magus shield" and "magus guard", which act like bracers of defence, and can lower your base AC from 10 to 4 , and are only usable by mages.

It's funny, but it's very effective to do the battles as a mage, even if you are battling in melee, and gain the XP from quests and conversations as a fighter, removing everyone from the party. Do this because the mage's AC can be by far the lowest of them all (without magical buffing)

Or, if you don't like to be a mage in melee, and stay as a fighter, simply have dakkon (or even ignus, but i don't like him) cast submerge the will (base AC=2) or shield (base AC=3, +1 saves, lasts twice as much), 1st level mage spells.
Being an Evil Overlord seems to be a good career choice. It pays well, there are all sorts of perks and you can set your own hours. However every Evil Overlord I've read about in books or seen in movies invariably gets overthrown and destroyed in the end. I've noticed that no matter whether they are barbarian lords, deranged wizards, mad scientists or alien invaders, they always seem to make the same basic mistakes every single time. Therefore, if I ever happen to become an Evil Overlord, ...

Better dexterity = better AC.
Ignus is a mage, not a fighter.

hmmm... nothing really new, but that empty chest slot is really annoying me now

anyway, he's finally the godlike killing machine he should be (lvl 10 fighter, lvl 9 mage) and i'm just procrastinating before going to the final area, then starting all over again to do all the stuff i missed... :)
