Alchemy question
Alchemy question
Ok, I've read most of the posts with the word "alchemy" in them, but none answer my question, which is:
"When do I get to see text instead of little questions marks (?) in the description of all my potions and alchemical ingredients?"
My alchemy skill is at about 16. I can mix potions. When I do, I select ingredients at random. Eventually, if I select 2 compatible ingredients, the name of the potion they will make appears in the name bar. A question mark appears in the list of effects.
The question marks are really starting to bug me, and I'm wondering when/if I'll ever be privy to the secret knowledge they conceal.

You don't see the first set of them until your skill is around 40.Originally posted by StepL

If you want my chart of what all the ingredients do, PM me and let me know an email address and I'll send it to you.

If you like to train Alchemy fast then teleport to Guild of Mages in Wolverine Hall, Sadrith Mora. Exit the door near the NPC u arrive, head down the spiral staircase and enter the room 1 floor below. In there you'll meet Seclian Plebo. He sells an infinite amount of cheap components to make lots and lots of Resore Healing and Fatigue potions (among others naturally, but those two served me best so far). Combine Saltrice + Marshmerrow for health and Saltrice + Chokeweed for fatigue. You can trade some back to him to finance your training. I raised my alchemy skill very fast like that and if you even wonna make cash, then sell those potions at the Fine Alchemist in Balmora, she has 3000 gold every day
PS: Of course that is only the way I discovered, I am sure there are many others too, hehe.

The cloud side ...
... of raising the skill such way if it's your minor or major skill is you're leveling very fast and only multiplier you get is in INT. So you might consider to devote a whole leveling to alchiemy - it's very hard to develop only one major/minor skill other way because in "real life" several of them most often are used. Otherway, it's almost impossible to develop in normal way only one leveling skill together with development of misc. skills to gain other bonuses.

I would be interested in learning Alchemy if somebody posted a recipe to mix a potion which restores Mana.
I totally agree with THE JAKER.. I'm playing a high-elf mage with sign of the apprentice, and of course I do not only collect all ingredients in the wilderness, but I also create all my spells and enchanted items by myself. But if I get a super-enchanted item as reward for a quest, I sell it and keep the money, because money is hard to come by for me.

I was kindof joking about collecting ingredients, sometimes buying them is very convenient but I do really enjoy going around finding them and it really adds so much to the game, the different ecosystems of the continent. I was so so happy when I finally got up to the Northeast and found all those fields of wickwheat I get to where I know where every plant is in an area and what they all do.

Oh damn...Voodoo isn't there any other ingredient? I knew about those three but I was praying there was another cheap ingredient I didn't know about yet...Frost Atronachs and Clannfears are so...um...not fun compared to picking flowers
Oh well.
Note to Chris Boney: alchemy is great to learn and if you're having trouble generating cash alchemy can help out quite a bit with that - you can make so many more potions than you really need and in general the cost of the ingredients if any is far less than the value of the finished potion, plus the practice you get improves your skill making your products more valuable.
Of course the biggest legit moneymaker in the game to me is obtaining uncharged soul gems, charging them and then selling them. beaucoups de septims.

I wish I had known that, when I disembarked from the prision ship... would have saved my breakable elven feet a good deal of trouble.
