If you have the eligiible romance options in your party and you are of the right race/gender the romance will start itself over time through dialogues. Exaclty which race depends on the romane target I think, but human will work for all.

Some people seem to like nalia though most do not. I personally fall into the do not category.

Yoshimo is not a long term solution to thief but you will be able to replace him when needed with theif good enough to pick locks and disarm traps. If you want good backstabs and set traps and such then then go talk to the short fellow selling turnips in the government district.

I have kept Nalia all the way through the game twice. BUT not because she's a good thief (she is not!), but because she's a very good mage and she's usually the first who casts high level spells. And with Robe of Vecna, she is almost perfect.

I think Jan --that's whom Glod implied by "short guy, etc."-- is the best long-term choice.

Cheers

Plenty of items to boost and you can always put more points in as he levels up.

I've kept Nalia so far : she levels up faster than Aerie. so can learn spells easier than Aerie. and with Genius/perception potions she can learn anything, I tried this with Aerie and she still failed to learn one spell, If you keep "knock" memorized, and a few potions of Thievery on you she can open anything and usually disarm anything, as far as backstabbing , I don't know, I don't do it because no monsters ever backstab me.
