Can't find the Greenstone Amulet!

Post by dolonjha »

I kept hearing of the Greenstone amulet to be found in the Beholder in the Underdark .. also saw an area demarkation on one of the walkthrough maps on GameBanshee .. looked verrrrry carefully there .. But sadly I could not find it.

I located 5 treasure zones in the Beholder area .. It wasn't in any of them .. so all I got there were:

- Sling of Arvoreen
- some gold
- some necklaces (decorative amulets)
- some protection spell

and at the first room from the Elder orb .. Got the Equaliser blade and Amulet of Power or something.

Can anyone help .. pinpoint where exactly I should find it ...
One more thing I came back to the Beholder lair on several separate trips ... Could it have decayed or disappeared because I did not steal it on my first entry?

I am soooooo ssscared of mindflayers that I was droooling over finding it!!

Maybe I will conjure a Mordecain and steal / kill for it - as suggested by some.

When I went through the beholder dungeon I couldn't find it as well, despite having gone through all (I think) of the stashes. Is it the version of the game?

The greenstone amulet is in a niche on the left side of the passage wall near the top (north) of the area. In the walkthrough on the gamebanshee baldurs II page the location is marked - you just need to keep moving your mouse over this area until you find it.

A zilliion time - did that

I did that .. I did that .. till my mouse was creaking!!
Did not find it .. specifically brushed the entire zone marked on the map in the walkthrough :(

Do you think it could be a big?

Is there a list of treasure areas demarcated in different maps in teh game .. that I can look at on the site??

Now I am all fussed up that maybe I missed other stuff in other areas too ...

Have you tried finding it with the tabulator button pressed? When you press it, it highlights all the holders, doors and such in the area.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

You need to have Throne of Bhall installed for that to work... :)

Since it is mentioned, I should tell you that I've played the game three times (currently playing the fourth), AND ONCE I couldn't find the amulet myself. Simply, it wasn't where it was supposed to be, and where I had found it before.

I don't know how the heck it happens, but it does.

Cheers

Alright I'm not exactly sure which is the Greenstone Amulet, but I know you find one that adds +2 Saves vs Spells (or was it 10% magic resist), is brown in color and the other one looks like a fat green ball on a thin necklace chain. I know that the other adds resistance to various domination spells with use of a charge. The 1st is dropped by the Beholder in the 1st room along with the Blade of the Equalizer and Eyestalk of the Beholder. The other is found in the Northwest section of the map. I think there's 3 separate stashes, 2 in the Northwest Section (find gems, gold, etc maybe amu?) and the other stash is in the very tunnel leading to the area where the other 2 stashes are located. It's a small stash along the wall, VERY SMALL! Think it's in the tunnel area. Oh yea and as far as I know items don't disappear as long as their stashed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I stand corrected :) . I've always had ToB installed when I've played BG2 anyway.

I think I have a bug ... I am pretty good at scouring .. haven't missed out on much .. But since you did encounter such a prob .. I think I have just that ...
Anyway I can conjure some up from Mordekain's Sword .. right everyone?? :)

POSSIBLE SPOILER

This happened to me as well. I found it accidentally the first time through the game, but on subsequent trips, I couldn't find it. I wonder if it's simply chance that dictates whether it will be there or not.

However, Mind Flayer haters rejoice: Chaotic Commands saves the day. A wonderful spell, really, since Umber Hulks are nothing but big targets to you under it's protection. Mind Flayers are reduced to trying to suck your INT out of you the old-fashioned way (I really, really, really hate that). I use it indiscrimitately, and make it a part of my buffing up procedure once my clerics(druids) are high enough level to cast it. It's a 5th level spell. It also has a nice duration.

Oh, one more thing: all of those potions of genius you have laying around in your inventory can come in handy when you're in Flayerville. Have your melee squad quaff them before engaging those pesky Ulitharids. Supergenius fighters fare very well against those octopus heads. :D

Folks - since the greenstone amulet is supposed to be in the game and you may have a bug - I give you permission to CLUA it into the game - or use shadowkeeper (like my giving you permission means beans ;) )

Just make sure you don't abuse this power - it is a path that is usually best not to start - kind of like abusing an illegal substance - starts all innocent and fun and ends with a mega cheese headache  .

Shadowkeeper is a great tool when used in moderation ;) - if you are unfamiliar with it just do a search on this forum - there must be a zillion threads on it...

The mord sword greenstone amulet bug was fixed in the latest patches I think but if you don't have ToB you might not have that patched. Just CLUA it if you feel you've been robbed =).

Spoiler...

Greenstone amulet is always there. I've played that dungeon countless times, it's always been there. I've also never heard anyone ever mentioning it not being there.

Here's how to find it:

Look at the large map view. Notice how the Beholer Lair layout looks like a Beholder. In the tunnel leading to the north 'eye-stalk' room, just on the bend in the west wall is a small container. That container has the Greenstone Amulet. Press the 'x' key to get location coordinates (the amulet container is x=2500, y=580).

Hope this helps.

You have to fear MindFlyers only if you have the Sola-Mod installed.
Otherwise they're not a (big) problem! ;)

I honestly think it's fair if you SK in items at the beginning of Irenicus dungeon that you would have brought from BG1 ie. Cloak of Balduran etc. As long as you got them fairly in the first place it shouldn't be a problem. If, on the other hand, you immediately SK in the best weapons, armour etc. then you spoil the game.

And there is a distinction between hard illegal substances and soft illegal substances such as cannabis. I've been using the latter for ages and so far no headache has been forthcoming. Like anything else, in moderation it's fine, and it's not nearly so bad for you as legal substances such as alcohol, cigarettes or even caffeine.

If you haven't ToB installed, the amulets from MS are better, they have only one charge, but they work by just equipping them (don't use the charge or you'll lose the amulets).
It's not a bug but is cheesy (very!!!).

next time

Next time around I shall look again .. Now I am far out .. back in Athkatla .... AND killed Kanggy-axe-ass @$#! :D
I didn't even stop whacking him even when he swallowed up Keldorn and Anomen .. I was soo enraged ... once he was dead and I had picked up the Cool Ring of Gaxx .. with pitter patter heart I wondered f I could quickly run back to Ribald and get some freedom scrolls and pull that Vithal release stunt and get them back .. I DID :D .... along with all my pet monstrosities I had unleashed and he had swallowed .. all coughed back out .. and with JUST one scroll used!!! Hee heee heee!!
This was like real cool ...
So no I am not going and repalying that whole thing for just that greenstone silly amulet .. But in my next play thru I will be more needle in haystack search mode ...
I also plan to install ToB soon as I am thru with this game once.
So I can use the useful tab function someone mentioned.

shadowkeeper

I am not risking downloading any mods and Shadowkeeper .. definitely not before I have played the game fully once ... Afraid that my computer will start shooting bugs left right and center .. right now I am enjoying a pretty smooth haven with BG2.

Downloads have inevitably screwed up stuff on my system.

I use a Win 98 and Pentium 2 and 42X Drive ...

Has anyone encountered problems after downloading Shadowkeeper??
