How does morrowind count skill adds

Post by ahvienda »

OK, it looks like everytime you train skills up 10 points total on either major or minor you go up a level.

someone posted that you can edit your skills to go up a level.

how does morrowind keep track of this?

is it when your skills hit certain levels? such as total of major and minor skills = 250 = level 2, 260 = level 3?

or is it just each time it registers a gain in one of the skills, it adds one to some mysterious counter?

I am asking because I was thinking of going the opposite direction, when I level, of clocking down my skills, so that next time I get 10 points, i get another level, thus taking out the likelyhood of hitting some level cap.

of course this is assuming that skills have caps...

I for one think the game is really hard right now, but I am level 1. and some low level dungeon skeleton with a bow is wasting me.

depending on what skills increased in order to level you up, that is what the modifier depends on. For instance, if you leveled up by increasing nothing but your athletics skill, then you would have a x5 modifier towards your speed, but none towards any other stat.

Basically, it takes all the skills you've increased, divides that number by two, and then applies a modifier to whatever it's governing stat is.

On my experience

it just the number of your related skill advancements divided by 2. So, for example, my char gained 8 levels in athletics + 2 in short weapon (10 in SPD), 3 in medium armor + 2 in heavy + 5 in spear (10 END) and 10 in acrobatics (STR). So at level up i was offered 5 in STR, SPD and END.
Of course, the best way is to collect most part of that form misc. skills. It's easy to see if you use min./maj. skills, you may get 10 levels in skills of one attribute and be forced to level up without bonuses for other.
