Re: Lost Prophets, their first album thefakesoundofprogress was amazing, but after having seen them on a live show recently, I wouldn't touch anything they do from now on. "Pretentious posers" and "sellouts" are two phrases that instantly spring to mind...get the first album, the first version if possible as they then re-released it with a few more 'whoop's in, and I think you'll enjoy it.

As far as older music goes, I would heartily recommend anything that Jimi Hendrix ever did/worked on/thought of, as he is amazing, and the band Cream (Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker) who did some amazing rock in their time.

Good to see Radiohead on their list, though :) - do you have all five albums and two live albums? If not, why not????? :D

EDIT: Just noticed that it seems only one person mentioned the Offspring - try them out as some of the people who really brought American punk into the mainstream, and did it well...

Oh, gamelan music! Yes, investigate that. There's some wonderful head-clearing music from Bali, Java, and the Sundanese people well worth hearing. Look for the Seven Seas label, if you can find it--great stuff. :)
Btw, there are some great gamelan recordings at reduced (read: $7 or so) rates up on the Berkshire Record Outlet website, at http://www.broinc.com/ Again, the label is Seven Seas (you can do an advanced search on that label itself), although Interra also has some decent listings.

fable, I didn't know you like gamelan music. You ought to try listen to some wayang - too bad it's in Javanese language but sure gonna meet your liking :)

@flyz : try Depeche Mode for some mood swing transition. Their "Violator" album are great especially Enjoy the Silence............Damn, I miss thing song (insert the CD and start to play it :) )
For other 80's :
A-Ha - mostly 4 of their first album
Lou Sern - "Swiss Boy" (now this is disco ! :D )
Baltimore - "Tarzan Boy"
Spandau Ballet (might come up nicely)

But I mostly listen to Enya songs nowadays

If you want to listen to other language songs simply reply; perhaps there are some other I can recommend you ;)

As for recommendations, they have been pretty much covered by everyone else :)

I could mention some Rap, The Roots are my personal favourite, followed closely by, Common. Three artists/groups i have heard good things about but don't actually own any music by are Jurrasic 5 (rated very highly), Herbaliser and Roots Manuva.

@Chemicals, you might like the Propellerheads as well :)

@Gaxx, i really don't rate Limp Bizkit in the same place as Korn or Papa Roach, in my opinion Limp Bizkit are ruled by a poor front man who just can't carry the band now that the very influential guitarist has left.

I never thought I'd hear anyone say that Papa Roach are better than anything!...

anyway, yeah the Manics'd be right up your street if you're prepared to give up some of the watery testosterone in Green Day and Nirvana etc...(by the way if you want real testosterone, track down the photo of Richey Edwards with 4REAL carved in his arm...[sarcasm]that ****'s sick man...[/sarcasm]...

and @ Whoever It Was....The Holy Bible is blatantly their best album... :D :) ;)

I personally can't stand the likes of The Strokes etc. First of all it was like 'Boybands are awful', because they made dumb music, and now it seems that Nu-Metallers are the awful ones, because not ony are they making dumb music, but they think it's smart; Now, this new breed are even worse, because they're making awful music, and they're dong it ON PURPOSE!!! At least N Sync etc don't deliberately make bad music...

@CE, you're a Bambaata fan too, huh? I've seen him twice - but not at actual Bambaata gigs, just at other events...I've seen Cool DJ Herc too, but Grandmaster Flash is evading me... ;)

Yes :D I've never seen him though :(

Grandmaster Flash is one the legends in rap, he and his group Furious Five were pioneers in the early 1980's. Their most famous song is probably "The message".

Are you serious? I had no idea he was still active - I wonder what he sounds like nowadays.

That's interesting to know. I don't really know too much about them - I did hear them play a couple of live acoustic songs on the radio earlier though, as it happens, and they didn't sound too bad. I'm kind of the opposite way round with Cooper Temple Clause, I saw them supporting Embrace last year and they were rubbish... but I actually quite like their new single, and the live stuff I've seen on TV hasn't been so bad, so maybe they've matured a bit.

Ummm... okay, I admit, I don't have that one. I gave up buying Manics albums after I bought Generation Terrorists and Gold Against The Soul and they were nowhere near as good as Everything Must Go. And they haven't produced anything as good since.

@Sleepy, I personally rate Limp Bizkit above Papa Roach, but thats just me. Actually, some Papa Roach songs (like Last Resort) haven't gotten old for me, but most of LB's songs have gotten pretty annoying. Also, I don't care much for Korn. It seems many people like them, but I find a lot of their songs very boring.

Oh, and I agree with people that many of the punk, rock, and metal bands these days really, really suck.

Hey, I like the Vines (their lead singer is a babe, it helps...) :p :D I thought they weren't bad on Later... maybe need to mature a bit, but they have definite potential.

Like the Hives (except their singer isn't attractive so much as amusing), they are ok but can get annoying (IMO).
