enchnating bow

Post by Ares2382 »

I successfully enchanted a bow to do some fire damage on touch, when it strikes - it doesn't look like it's having any effect, also I have another bow that I enchanted that does fire damage on target when it strikes - again it doesn't look like it's having any effect. Has anyone enchanted a bow that does anything successfully, if so I'd appreciate if you tell me exactly what you enchanted it with.

I think the problem is this: if you enchant a bow to do for instance a fireball, what will happen is it will work, but you have to equip the bow like a magical item - you know like when you equip a ring. So onscreen you will not see a bow, you'll see your hand in spellcasting position just the same as when you equip an amulet of levitation or whatever. Therefore unfortunately although you CAN make a bow that shoots fireballs, it won't work right - the fireballs won't shoot when you shoot the bow.

Because of this the enchanting of bows is sort of a dead end - the best you can really do is a bow that gives you a fortify agility effect or something - a "bow of accuracy". Also it seems that you can't enchant arrows as no arrow will come up in the enchant interface. However you CAN get magical arrows - I've gotten a lot off of skeleton archers, including some that do fire damage. I haven't ever found anywhere in the game to buy them, but it would be pretty easy to make any kind of enchanted arrow in the editor and put them somewhere in the game for sale. I was just looking in the editor to see if I could figure out a way to get arrows to come up in the enchanting screen but I haven't so far.

If you want some really good magical arrows, try the Tower of Dawn, in Ghostgate. In the lower level is an Enchanter who sells Dire Arrows of Frost (something like that). She sells 'em in 20-arrow bundles. With a merchantile skill of around 60, I can usually buy 20 for around 30-40 drakes. The arrows respawn when you close the buy/sell screen and you can purchase as many as you want or afford. Used in conjunction with a Bonemold Bow or a Bound Longbow, these arrows are deadly (they are the best arrows I have found so far and reasonably inexpensive) :) .
