I think, that best part of any AD+D based RPG
is 8;9;10 lvls. because there are goals (like Strongholds and adventuring in this wonderful worlds etc.) But in 30-40 lvl. is
boredom (if this is right word) because you are too powerful. You must doing things like the Elminster (helping Harpers + others "good" persons) or U may particulary destroy Faerün.

honestly I'm not worried about it. All the points mentioned are good and have strength in their arguments but I don't think Black Isle will let us down.

For all we know they could somehow have are party be shifted to another plane where the typical monster is impossible to beat without being lvl 25. Who knows!

anyway I can't wait - the game is meant to be fun and Bg has never dissapointed me.

All the points here are good and valid but what I would like to see is a new game starting from level 1, but with this huge cap of level 40 or whatever. No cap at all would be even better, but I don't know if this would be possible. Since they now say they've done level 40 I'm assuming that is possible.

You would get BG1 type experience for normal things, not these huge amounts you get for little things in BG2, at least at the start of the game. The game could be set on different planes or vastly different areas, so a low level character wouldn't suddenly be killed by a dragon somewhere and a high level character wouldn't have to fight a gibberling (hehe, they were so hard). Then someone who played for ages COULD get up very high, but it would take a lot of effort, as it would in PnP ADnD. You would practically never reach the cap and if you did it would have taken enough effort for it to be real. What I mean is, if you were playing ADnD, you COULD get up very very high but it would take a LOT of time. I think the game should reflect this.

you probably play diablo2 then, after the easy diablo, u have a nightmare diablo, after that u can have a hell diablo, and after that, you can have unlimited hell diablo(s), means you never finish the game, which SUCKS. (speaks this sentance with Williow's acsent, Image, well )

and in BG2, you only need to fight one dragons, might be none, if you can speak to the black thus let it give you the quest item. life of something.... you don;t need to kill any dragon at all, althought i killed every dragon except the silver..

and i certainly don't want to be chased by goblins in the early stages like icewind dale.. what can you do with a mage who has 6HP and 1 spell?

It is like the Unreal Tournament (but UT is better).

When you first look at Irenicus's stats being level 30 or so and casting level 9 spells you know its going to be a big battle for you, but think of the battle he was going through. Even tho he is an extremely high level he was still beatable by your party...maybe the expansion will be like bg2 except in reverse... Since your a Bhaal child that has gained a huge notoriety other parties will come to attack you, although, you being a much higher level they may be able to offer a challenge...of course with a party it will be different then just irenicus's lonesome self, but there is a possiblity... the ending it forshadows something of this type...

***SPOILERS***

"Gorion's ward has become too powerful. We should have acted long before now."

"There is no reason to be concerned. The fate of this fool has been sealed."

"But how can we be so sure?"

"The spawn of Bhaal is doomed. There is no escape"

Obviously, these cowled "persons"-let's call them priests of Bhaal-are related somehow in the "resurrection" of Bhaal.Propably they know all half brothers/half sisters of the PC,and they watch them, just like they watch him.

They key phrase is "too powerful".This seems unacceptable. So,no Bhaalspawn should become too powerful. As the ending of BG1 implies, every time a Bhaalspawn dies,his/her godly essence returns to Bhaal. If all Bhaalspawns died, then Bhaal might be resurrected, possibly by some form of ritual (made by the above mentioned priests?).

So these "priests" must make sure that all Bhaalspawns die before they become powerful-just like Sarevok was killed by the PC before completing his plan. The big question is what will happen if someone becomes VERY powerful,or kills all other Bhaalspawns. If you remember in the opening movie of BG1,when Sarevok killed one of his half brothers the dialogue was something like:
Bhaalspawn: "No wait, there are others,I can show you"
Sarevok:"I'll be the last and you will go first"

Actually the preview mentioned something about that:"Next you'll travel to a variety of places, including the city of Saradush (in Tethyr), which is under siege. It seems that the children of Bhaal are at war with each other, and you have landed right in the thick of it. The city is teeming with huddled refugees, hot-tempered locals, decaying corpses, and disease. Catapults rain fire down on the city streets as you walk around. It's not a happy place."

Hmm,children of Bhaal at war.I will end my speculations, with just a last question. What will happen to Imoen?

yes, but when we fight irenicus in CH7, we pretty have every weapons we want, and we all cast every protection magic we could, and i threw dispel magic, breach, etc to him, unless they made the AI beter, i don't think there will be anyone who can challenge our parties. cos every enemies has only a few attacks, once you know which one and protect from it, eventually you'll win.

You all seem to think it means "we are REQUIRED to be level 40." Look at planescape, you can get somewhere around 12 million XP before it stops, but I'm in the second to last area with about 600k to each character. I beat BG II the first time with a little less then 2.4 million on a few characters

Personally, I think that ToB's ending will depend on your character's alignment and actions throughout the expansion... at least, I hope that it does.

As far as a truly evil character goes, you would probably slaughter all of your siblings, even Imoen, to retake Bhaal's portfolio.

I wonder if there is an actual 'throne' that is some kind of artifact, that all the Bhaal children are going to go after. There then is a choice depending on alignment. You either take it, and Bhaal's porftolio, becoming the next Lord/Lady of Murder, or you destroy it. Maby it contains the essence or the Old Man himself, you have to battle it to take the throne, or destroy it. Of course, it's all speculation!

hehe.. personally, I'd like to play my evil fighter in the expansion, slaughtering my weaker siblings in an attempt to appease my 'father'.. hehe

Sort of like Sarevok, only better. Image

I don't know if they'd maike it like Highlander. "There can be only one." I'd be kind of disappointed if they did, in fact. I hope the throne of Bhaal is something you either strive to attain or fight to destroy. I'd like the different endings.

That comment about Imoen is very interesting, BTW. There's so much they could do, there. Hmmmmm. Image

I am disappointed about the level 40, though. Characters already advance at an unearthly rate for my tastes. Just getting to level 20 seemed rediculous, IMHO. I trust they'll make it entertaining, as I've been pleased with all they've produced thus far, but they have their work cut out for them. Level 40?!? Image We'll see.
